Eagles Fans, Don't Get Your Hopes Up

First of all, I am a die-hard Eagles fan, so I am not writing this from a Dallas point of view. The Eagles management will likely not make any big moves this offseason. They are paranoid since the t.o. situation, so loud-mouths like Chad Johnson and Javon Walker are unlikely. Aftre McNabb's comments about playmakers, Andy Reid gave his usual "I think our team is only 1 tweak away from the super bowl" speech. He and the front office are in a trance. They think this "system" is so good that they don't need good players. News Flash, Andy: A system doesn't make bad players good. It doesn't make Greg Lewis, or Will James, or Brent Celek good. They keep telling us how these guys are gonna be solid role players. But thats not what we need now. They have enough role players already. Its time to bring on a playmaker. With a great reciever, this offense would be ltteraly UNSTOPPABLE. If the 'D keys on BWEST, the reciever would have man-on-man coverage. If they keyed on the reciever thats one or two less defenders on BWEST. Wow. But, I'm sorry, this will probably not happen. They'll get someone like Aaron Morehead or Bubba Franks, but no one good. I know, it pisses me off too. But I'm just being realistic.

Phillies Poised for a Breakout Season in '08

This has been a busy offseason for the Phils. Aquiring Brad Lidge, watching one of your team leaders in Aaron Rownd leave, and 100-win predictions, it has ben a roller coaster ride. Although they did lose Rowand, the Phillies are still the most talented team in the NL East. They have what is probably the best young core in basebell with Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Cole Hamels, and Brett Myers. With the addition of Brad Lidge, the bullpen AND the starting rotation are stregnthened. Brett Myers is able to return to where he belongs, the starting rotation, and the Phillies finally have a formidable closer. And with J.C. Romero, Tom Gordon, and Ryan Madson joining hm in a solid bullpen, the Phils should be able to close out games and win.

Will the Phils be able to execute? No one knows, but Rollins' 100-win prediction certainly sends us the feeling in that locker room: they are in it to win a World Series. The Phils have the players to be a potential World Series team. They just need to execute.

Eagles Fans: GET A BIG PLAY RECIEVER!

The Eagles were a mediocre 8-8 in '07 for one reason: they didn't have a tall reciever in the red zone to cap off drives with touchdowns rather than field goals. Kevin Curtis and Reggie Brown are fine recievers when they are not expected to do too much. If the Eagles can add a big, fast, physical reciever, they could become a Super Bowl contender as soon as next year.

Some possibilities at WR are Cahd Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, and Javon Walker. They are all unhappy with their respective situations, so the time is NOW for the Eagles to make a play for one of them. Another possibility is Bernard Berrian from Chicago. His name is not as big as the others, but Berrian certinly has big-play capability.

The bottom line is, Donovan deserves better than he's been given. One season with you-know-who, and look ehat happened. He's been surrounded by James Thrash's, Todd Pinkston's, Greg Lewis's and Freddie Mitchell's in th past. And he still got the Birds to 4 straight NFC 'ships. Mark my words: if the Eagles get one of those four recievers or someone like them, they will at least get to the NFC chapionship.
