Stuckey 2 not 1

Pistons rookie Rodney Stuckey looks like he could be something special...the problem is he is spending too much time at the wrong position. When the Pistons drafted Stuckey, I was a little hesitant. After doing some research on Rodney, it was very apparent the kid could score and get to the rim. Both are what the Pistons need in a player coming off the bench. However, when you see that the Pistons were looking to mold him into more of a point guard, I was a little disappointed.

As I pointed out in the first summer league game you could see that Stuckey was going to have some struggles playing the point. Also, it has become painfully obvious that he is an off-guard trying to accommodate playing the point.

Nothing has changed through the first two preseason games either. Here is what we can take from the first two games of the preseason...First, Rodney is one hell of a scorer. The guy can get to the bucket virtually whenever he wants, and he has a nose for the bucket when he gets in the paint. Along with that, he is fantastic from the stripe. Last, he looks very uncomfortable bringing the ball up and getting the team in an offensive set. He is still picking up his dribble way to high on the court and he is turning the ball over way too much.

Now, I understand the kid is young and he is still very raw...but I think this just shows that Joe Dumars has wasted another draft pick like we have seen year after year. We can all see that Stuckey looks like he can score and he has that punch off the bench that someone like Ben Gordon can provide. However, if that is the case, why in the world did Joe waste another first round pick on an off- guard (Arron Afflalo)? It was clear they wanted a point guard due to Lindsey Hunter aging and really no other point on the team other than Chauncey Billups.

I almost get the felling that the Pistons front office just looked at the two picks they had and hoped that one of them paned out, instead of trying to fill a need with each. If the Pistons are relying on Stuckey to magically turn into a guy that will come off the bench and not turn the ball over and rack up some assists, they're fooling themselves. However, if they're looking for him to get up and down, slash to the bucket and attack defenses from the wing, they got what they're looking for. Lets all hope Chauncey can make it though the year, because if he cant...Piston fans are in trouble.

Celtics Will Hellp Pistons This Year

Best thing that can happen for the Detroit Pistons is the fact that the Boston Celtics, behind their three superstars are getting all the Eastern Conference love. Ok, well maybe not all the love...but they're getting enough to draw the attention off the Pistons for a change.

It is easy to say the past two seasons Detroit has been the favorite to come out of the East, yet they have been knocked off in the Eastern Conference Finals each of the last two years. Arguably, it took one guy to take them out each time. in '05 it was Dwayne Wade turning into superman to run the Pistons out and last year Lebron with his game 5 heroics trumped anything the Pistons had to fire back with. The Pistons have always had the talent to come out of the East, it is the attitude and coaching that has held them back.

Each of the last two years the Pistons have admitted they were the better team, but just came up short. Especially last year, after a game 6 eruption from Rasheed Wallace.

This year all the attention should be set on the Big Ticket ( Kevin Garnett) and the rest of the Boston Celtics. Hands down, they have the best trio in the NBA with Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and KG. Sure, they're a little thin on the bench, and have two unproven starters in Kendrick Perkins (C) and Rajon Rondo (PG) however, look what Cleveland had last year when they went to the finals? Lebron James, a broken down old Zydrunas Ilgauskas, beat up Larry Hughes and a bunch of role players. Daniel Gibson was not even an option for the Cavs in the regular season, and out of nowhere he comes in to torch the Pistons from beyond the arc.

Yet, last year the Pistons were the favorites, they were the team that everyone expected to reach the finals. That team had a sense of entitlement and felt they could show up and they would reach the Finals. They have played like that the past two years under Coach Flip Saunders. It was just like the upset of the century in college football this year, Michigan vs. Appalachian State. Michigan felt they could show up and win, and they got caught with their "pants down" so to speak. Same issue with the Pistons the past two seasons.

Detroit will rack up a ton of regular season wins, and should be a high seed in the playoffs. However, if Boston can steal that regular season luster and give the underdog card back to the Pistons, we might get to see that team we saw when they reached back to back finals a few years back...
