Poll of polls: NHL power rankings

San Jose continues to roll despite losing Evgeni Nabokov with backup Brian Boucher performing admirably in Nabokov's absence.

Chaos quickly ensues with Boston, Pittsburgh and Detroit each garnering a second place ranking, but unable to score the runner-up spot across the big board. As for the team's holding it down at the bottom of the rankings, they can take solace in the fact that there is only one way to go and that is up.

The NHL's ultimate fighters

You certainly won't find Alexander Ovechkin or Sidney Crosby on this list, but you will find some of their teammates. For Colton Orr and Georges Laraque, it appears that they may finally be getting the recognition they have (literally) fought for.

Let the Burke-to-Toronto rumors commence (again)

"Yes sir, Mr. Ducksworth. Thank you very much, Mr. Ducksworth. Quack, quack, quack, Mr. Ducksworth!"

That probably wasn't exactly how Brian Burke's meeting with the Ducks went last week. But the charade that had played out over the past several months with the rumors that Brian Burke will move to Toronto had a similar mocking tone. Brian Burke never formally admitted it, but he was going to do what he wanted and the Ducks were merely the Mr. Ducksworth to his Gordon Bombay.

And with that the Anaheim Ducks have called a press conference for 3:30pm ET Wednesday to imply that Brian Burke is the next general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Lincecum nabs cover of MLB 2K9 (that Cy Young award is pretty cool, too)

San Francisco Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum finds himself in some pretty good company after just two seasons in the majors. 2K Sports announced that the 24-year old righty has been signed as the cover athlete for the Major League Baseball 2K9 video game.

The new cover boy takes over from the Mets' Jose Reyes who graced the cover of MLB 2K8.

Oh yeah, he also won the NL CY Young on Tuesday despite some giant competition.

UFAs that are MIA

You could field a pretty good starting five with some of the UFAs that are still available.

So, you want to buy a pro sports franchise?

Forbes' recently released list of the ten sports franchises most likely to pack up the U-Haul and head for greener pastures.

Brady Quinn wins Ohio but falls short of The White House

Cleveland Browns' quarterback Brady Quinn hit the campaign trail to stump for Republican Senator John McCain last month, but he failed to give the Arizona candidate the boost he needed to capture The White House. But all is not lost. The people of Cleveland have spoken, and the Brady Quinn show will kick off an extended run this Thursday night against the Denver Broncos.

Stanley Cup or not, Leafs are NHL's most valuable franchise

The Toronto Maple Leafs may be absent from the top of the Eastern Conference standings, but Forbes' newly published list of the most valuable teams in the NHL reveals that losers can be winners.

The Other Alex isn't a fan of Sidney Crosby

Forget President, the Capitals' Alexander Semin isn't even a member of the Sidney Crosby fan club. The Washington Capitals winger was critical of Sid The Kid in an interview with Yahoo! Sports this past Friday, going as far as calling out the NHL for its promotion of No. 87 and suggesting the Blackhawks' Patrick Kane is a more skilled player.

Video: Steven Stamkos makes his Nike debut

The Steven Stamkos hype machine got off to a slow start in the NHL, but it may be on track again with a new commercial just released featuring the young phenom.

Rangers' prospect Cherepanov dies during KHL game

New York Rangers prospect Alexei Cherepanov has died. The 19-year old prospect collapsed on the bench during a KHL game in his native Russia. Cherepanov was drafted 17th overall in 2007 by the New York Rangers.

Cherepanov was unofficially nicknamed "The Siberian Express" and had been playing with Avangard Omsk of the Continental Hockey League.

Mickelson, Vick seen and heard on Entourage

He's no Johnny Drama, but Phil Mickelson gave it the old college try during his cameo for the HBO series "Entourage" on Sunday.

George Brett and that time at the Bellagio

George Brett, the former Kansas City Royals' star, is most widely remembered for his 'Pine Tar incident'. But that could change once you see this video.

UPDATE: VIDEO HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN DOWN.

Coach today, gone tomorrow

If you are hired as the head coach of the Oakland Raiders don't unpack-with Al Davis running the team it could be a short stay. Success does not breed confidence and time is not a luxury according to Raiders owner Al Davis, who has hired and fired five coaches since 1998.

Leafs Rant: O Captain, My Captain

With the Mats Sundia era in Toronto nearing its conclusion, a changing of the guard is underway in Toronto. And with that comes the need for a someone new to step in and wear the 'C' for the Leafs. The Leafs currently do not have any "prototypical captains" in their lineup, but there are a few guys who could get the nod this season.
