Uconn Pulls It out without Thomas.

Uconn really came on strong at Gampel Pavillion without Mel Thomas on the court. OF course Mel was on the sidelines next to Kalana Greene.

The 1/1 Uconn will be facing No. 3 North Carolina on Monday. Can they pull this game off? Renee Montgomery is going to have to do exactly what she did Saturday, and try her hardest with Mel and Kalana cheering them on in the backround.

Do you think they can do it? Lets hope so.

Uconn Women Loose Mel Thomas for the season- What will they do?

When Uconn lost Kalana Greene for the seaon, yes maybe they did loose a great player, but there was still hope because she was still a junior and still had another year, and also she was still eligable for a red shirt which means because she missed a certain amount of a season, she could play another year.

But now the Huskies have lost their best 3-point shooter senior guard who is the Huskies' 3rd best shooter who is not eligable for a red shirt! On Tuesday January 15th Uconn played against Syracuse with nearly 2 minutes left in the game.... Mel fell to the ground scrambling for a loose ball and torn an ACL and a knee legament. Some people thought she would be alright because she was able to get up and limp very badly, some people thought she just toor it. But now Mel's college career is over.

What will Uconn DO?

Let's Hope Uconn Doesn't Loose another starter- Mel Thomas

The 1/1 Uconn Women's Basketball team has been struggling the last two games to keep their title but have managed to keep their position as #1 being undefeated. But can they do it without senior starter captain Mel Thomas?

Last night (Tuesday January 15th) Uconn faced Syracuse.... and it was their worst game of the season but still managed to win by only 6 points. But the biggest scare of the night was that at about 1 1/2 minutes left in the game Mel Thomas who had played the whole game and led Uconn with 15 points went flying and hurt her right knee as she came up slowly nearly sobbing she was limping very badly and solomley off the court.

No reports have come back on her MRI that she supposidly got this morning.

The question is... Will Mel Be able to play the rest of the season? and. Will the Huskies be able to keep their #1 position or will they fall down dramatically?

What do you think?

Mel Thomas- Like a staircase?

Now we all know that Mel Thomas-the captain senior guard for the Connecticut Huskies- is a great basketball player.... but is she like a staircase?

Mel Thomas is my favorite player of all time but I do think that she is like a staircase sometimes. Such as one game she can lead her team with 19 points and the next game down to 16(not that its bad!) but then the next game not score anything.

The only thing with Mel is that after a game that Mel doesn't score anything.... I would hate to be the next team to play against Connecticut because even though she still is not at her best she is about 3/4 of the way up her staircase.

Last game after not scoring anything againts PurDue she scores the 3rd highest on Uconn of the game of 14 points.

Mel Thomas interview after Defeat of Army (Dec. 31)

Megan Culmo once again interviews Mel Thomas after she come back from her little shooting slump and leads Uconn With 19 points. 5 which came from behind the arc (3 pointers).

Doty, a 5-foot-10 guard from Germantown (Pa.) Academy, tore her left ACL playing soccer in September and is out for the season.

"The extension rate in my leg is almost back to normal," Doty said. "It feels really good. I've been swimming and riding the [stationary] bike a lot and it's all going really well."

Doty and Delle Donne expect to attend both summer sessions at UConn this year and be ready for the start of preseason workouts.

Delle Donne, a 6-5 guard from Ursuline Academy in Wilmington, Del., is the all-time leading scorer in Delaware girls basketball history. She has missed the past three weeks with mono. If she gets good results from tests on her spleen today, she could be back as soon as Saturday.

"I feel really good," Delle Donne said. "I had new blood work taken [Thursday] and it came back very well. I'm so anxious to get back. It's so horrible not being able to play."

Mel Thomas moves into fourth place in career three-pointers at UConn

Mel Thomas only needed one more three pointer to slide past Sue Bird and Jen Rizzotti in the career 3-pointers at Uconn. She made 5 all in the first half against ARMY. Mel has 212 career 3's. Lets hope she can move into the next place soon (3rd). GOOD LUCK MEL!

Uconn: No. 1/1 Women's basketball closes out 2007 with 82-33 win over ARMY

Four players in this game for Uconn scored in double figures yesturday; Mel Thomas led with 19 points; Maya Moore with 11 points; Charde Houston with 10 points; and Renee Montgomery with 10 points. This was a very well played game for the huskies even though all of their games really are. In head coach Geno Auriemma's opinion, his 11-0 huskies will soon end their winning streak after they play Villanova on Thursday because "the past 11 teams they have played were unfamiliar with Uconn's playing strategies and Villanova has played Uconn many times before". Let's hope that this time Geno is wrong.

Mel Thomas Interview after making 1000 points!

Megan Culmo interviews coach Geno Auriemma and player (guard) Mel Thomas after the game of which Mel had scored her 1000 point while playing with Uconn. She is the 29th player in Uconn history to reach 1000 points in her career at Uconn. Besides her Dianna Taurasi and Sue Bird also have been recognized for reaching their 1000 points of which Taurasi actually reached over 2,000.

Mel Thomas comes back!

Yesturday (Monday December 31, 2007) Uconn's guard Mel Thomas finally came back from a small stump in the road. The last couple of games for uconn.... mel only averaged about 4-5 points per game and was loosing her 3-point streak. But yesturday she proved that with a little confidence she could proove herself worthy of being able to hold her place as a starter when she scored the game high of 19 point... 5 of which were behind the arc (3-pointers). The Uconn game ended up with a score of 82(UCONN)-33(ARMY). Uconn has a streak of 12 wins and 0 losses. They are the #1 college team in the country.
