When will Yankees stop pretending?

When will Joe Girardi and the New York Yankees, seven games behind Boston for the wild card with 24 to play, quit pretending and acknowledge they are out of the race? If Girardi honestly believes the Yankees are still in contention, he is delusional.

It's September. They are playing out the string. It's time for youth to be served. It is completely pointless for the Yankees to continue starting Ponson and Darrell Rasner.

A chat with Brett Favre ... sort of

Since there is currently no Jets blog here on SB Nation, I can't do a '5 Questions' segment with a rival blogger this week. So, in place of that, here is a Q&A with Jets quarterback Brett Favre ... sort of. It's actually what Favre would have said if he had really spoken with Big Blue View.

Super Bowl MVP still can't find respect

Here we go again with the lack of respect for Eli Manning!

The Sporting News is out with its rankings of the top 25 quarterbacks in the NFL. Eli is ranked 12th, and looking at the list just makes me shake my head.

I would have thought that Eli's monster playoff performance, earning Super Bowl MVP honors and outplaying Jeff Garcia, Tony Romo, Brett Favre and Tom Brady would have gained him more respect than to be 12th on this list.

Rays better than the Yankees? We'll see

St. Petersburg Times writer Gary Shelton has dropped the big one, the bombshell you thought was impossible. Shelton thinks the Tampa Bay Rays are better than the New York Yankees.

OK, I will take the bait. Let's go ahead and have the argument.

Is it possible that the Rays will actually finish ahead of the Yankees this season? Sure it is. But, it is way too soon for chest-thumping, gloating and Shelton's bold, outright assertion that the Rays are better.

Yankees vs. Mets? Yawn!

Yeah, I know. There's a Subway Series being played this weekend. Yankees vs. Mets. American League vs. National League. New York City bragging rights. Johan Santana sticking it to Hank Steinbrenner and the Yanks, which he did Saturday.

I'm supposed to be all fired up. The baseball world is supposed to stop. Yankees vs. Red Sox is supposed to be the only thing in the universe more important than this.

Only I find myself not really giving a damn. I just can't get all worked up about "supposedly" big games between two teams that have been entirely mediocre through the first quarter of the season.

Hey Ian, your attitude is what needs adjusting

An open letter to New York Yankees' rookie pitcher Ian Kennedy.

Dear Egotistical Ian,

What the hell is going on with you? You are pitching like crap, but the truth is your attitude is pissing me off more than your pitching.

You got rocked again last night, lasting 4.2 innings and giving up four runs on five hits and three walks.

Your reaction?

"Maybe next time will be better. ... I didn't think there were any adjustments that needed to be made."

No adjustments? WTF are you talking about?

How the Giants new LBs stack up

The New York Giants added two linebackers, Bryan Kehl and Jonathan Goff, in the middle rounds of the NFL Draft. Here's a lool at both players.

Hank Steinbrenner: Everyone else is an idiot

In the middle of ranting to the New York Times about how he wants Joba Chamberlain in the starting rotation -- NOW!! -- Yammerin' Hank basically called everyone else in the organization an idiot. Yep, this is Boss 2, retro to 20 years ago.

10 questions about the Giants draft

Here are 10 New York Giants-related questions to ponder as the NFL Draft approaches.

Interview with Eli Manning

Giants.com has posted a very nice video interview with Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning. It's a good look back at the championship run.

Michael Kay loves your free stuff

In the event you head to Yankee Stadium on a giveaway day expecting free stuff, only to find out it's already gone when you arrive, Paul O'Neill knows where you can find it.

Play-by-play man Michael Kay has it.

In a priceless moment during last night's otherwise forgettable 5-2 loss to Toronto, O'Neill called out Kay when it comes to the freebies.

Father vs. son-in-law? Snee may skip workuts

Pro Football Talk reported that Chris Snee wants a new contract and may skip the "voluntary" workouts that begin today.

Boy, if he does decide to pass on the workouts that sure will be a fun story. Remember, Snee is coach Tom Coughlin's son-in-law.

You have to wonder which side the coach would be on. As coach, of course, he wants Snee at the workouts. On the other hand, a raise for Snee sure would help out TC's daughter and his two grandsons.

Girardi's job -- protect young pitchers

The future of the New York Yankees hinges on one thing -- is Joe Girardi the right manager to protect and development the young pitchers upon whom the Yankees are trusting the future of the franchise? We begin finding out Monday.

Shockey to Saints still possible?

SI.com's Peter King believes the Jeremy Shockey to the New Orleans Saints talks aren't dead.

From King's Monday Morning Quarterback column today.

I think, Giant beat writers, you might sniff around this one: New Orleans is not through trying to acquire Jeremy Shockey.

Is The Boss a Hall of Famer?

Does New York Yankees' owner George Steinbrenner deserve induction into baseball's Hall of Fame?

Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson thinks so.

"Personally, when it comes to the game and its history, I think I certainly have a case for The Boss, George Steinbrenner," Jackson said a couple of nights ago. "With his 10 pennants and six world championships, I would give him my nod to one day be elected to the Hall of Fame."
