A trade for Larry Fitzgerald? Don't count on it

Larry Fitzgerald is a lot like a $1 million luxury car.

A lot of us would love to wake up tomorrow morning and find one in our driveway, but the chances of it happening are about the same as Randy Moss catching a pass from Donovan McNabb this fall.

EAGLE FANS, POST YOUR FAVORITE VIDEOS OF YOUR FAVORITE PLAYER

I think instead of waiting for some kind of rumor to shed some light to the trade, let's post great videos to watch to kill time. Like weapon x which is already posted.

On the NFL: Free agency poses challenges for EAGLES

Upsetting veterans on the team by bringing in new players at higher salaries is a peril of free agency. Past performers almost always feel they are worth more money. Feelings are bound to get hurt. The trick is keeping chemistry intact.

"The players on our team know that we just don't go out and kill [team chemistry] in free agency," Reid said Friday. "That hasn't been our way. We try to [strengthen the roster] through the draft.

"I think the players understand that. At least I think the players on our team understand that. The players on the Patriots understand that. Teams understand that. It's hard. It's a hard thing, but it's a part of the game right now that you have to face."

Torry HOLT to EAGLES FALSE RUMOR!!!

According to a source (link below), the Rams official laughed for a good 20 seconds, then told a reporter: "If that [trade] were the case, we might have to line you up at wide receiver." Sorry Eagle fans (who wanted Torry Holt), but it seems Torry Holt is not coming to the Eagles. Actually, I really don't know how many people out there wanted an aged Holt. In fact, I don't even know where the rumor even started.

FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN OTHER ASPECTS OF EAGLES OFFENSE/DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS BESIDES THE WR!!!

I think although it's great anticipating the blockbuster trade between the Cards and the Eagles, there are a lot of people who are looking at other positions for evaluations. Post comments on what's in the back of your mind besides concern for the Eagles' WR corps. I would like to start off by asking, the Eagles have not yet addressed the fullback position to challenge Jason Davis, do the Eagles think he is the one? Another food for thought: Tra Thomas is on of the best in the business, but his age and durability (back spasm, except last year) is still in question. Winston Justice last year for sure did not gain my support to take over Tra's position any time soon. Running back position? I know the Eagles were interested in Julius Jones of Cowboys, what next???

Al Davis HATERS...Good News...It seems Davis' tenure with Raiders has outlived expiration date!!!

Click the link to read the article on why Al Davis, Raider's hot shot, has outlived the expiration date!!! As America's population ages, there are plenty of people who should think carefully about whether they should still be driving their cars.

Good luck telling them.

None of us will ever want to admit that our best days are deep in the rear-view mirror, even at a time when it's getting increasingly difficult to see the windshield. Still, there's a point at which the keys need to be taken away.

The same theory applies in the workplace. Sometimes, it's simply time to go.

But, sometimes, the guy who needs to go is the one who's running the show.

And that pretty much sums up the current state of the Oakland Raiders franchise.

OFFICIAL: EAGLES RAISE OFFER FOR FITZ, DEAL COULD BE COMPLETED SOON

Everyday brings another hope for the Eagle fans. It seems more probable today than it did a week ago that the Eagles will acquire Larry Fitzgerald via trade. First rumor held that Eagles were offering Lito and 2nd. Then Lito and 1st. Then Lito, Howard, and a draft pick. Now Eagles raised the bid and are offering Lito, Brown, and a draft pick. Tomorrow will bring another positive news regarding the trade. Some say that the deal has already been completed and that the Eagles are just working on Larry's new lucrative contract yet fit for the Eagles cap. That may be the hidden reason for TKO's release although Eagle organization refute that the release was to allow younger players to emerge... Positive outlook on the horizon. Waiting is the hardest part, but it seems the wait will be well worth to what will happen soon in the next few days.

Dave Spadaro was wrong about TKO as he is about everything else. HE IS CLUELESS!!!

Interesting thing about Dave Spadaro of Philadelphia Eagles. Is it just me or does everyone else think Dave Spadaro is CLUELESS. I mean he works inside the Eagles facility and never knows anything that is going on inside. Remember couple of days back when GCOBB stated that because TKO's name was off the list Eagle's linebacker position, he thought that TKO was going to be released or at least be traded. And what does Spadaro say? He replies that those who think just because TKO's name is off the list is absolutely ignorant, naive, and clueless because there is no way Eagles were going to trade TKO. Seriously, I think Dave Spadaro should be blogging and telling us valid rumors before GCOBB, newspapers, and various other sources get their hands on the rumors that tends to be valid at times. SPADARO HAS NO CLUE ALL THE TIME. I mean the guy is totally arrogant too. If you hear his Eagles live on the site, when the guy takes phone calls and people ask him questions, DAVE answers I DON'T KNOW, I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THE EAGLES ARE GOING TO DO NEXT. Seriously, why the heck do you ask people to call you about questions and answer I DON'T KNOW. Spadaro really just pisses me off. Anyone agree or am I just way off?

Asante Samuels...What kind of Impact he'll have on the Eagles...

Eagles was met with criticism in some circles. But when you examine his skills merging into the Eagles' scheme, it appears to be an ideal fit for the player and team. Samuel, who had 16 interceptions the last two seasons, is a ball-hawking corner who excels at "reading the three-step".

He shows exceptional closing quickness, and his ability to anticipate routes is uncanny for a young player. Although the Patriots' scheme put Samuel in favorable situations, he still ranked as one of the game's premier cover corners. Possessing a clear understanding of his strengths, Samuel and agent Alonzo Shavers made sure to emphasize "fit" over money when examining his free agent options. Shavers said, "We viewed this move as similar to Deion Sanders' move from San Francisco to Dallas in the mid-'90s". He then added, "Asante wants to be a piece of the puzzle, not the focal point of the defense."

Though some have chided Samuel for choosing Philly over New England (among others), Shavers believes the "the overall philosophy of the organization made the Eagles the ideal fit for Asante".

In coordinator Jim Johnson's scheme, Samuel will get an opportunity to fill an important role in the Eagles' defense -- which was missing a playmaking corner who could handle errant throws dictated by high-pressure schemes. In fact, Samuel's skills as a ballhawk will greatly improve a defense that recorded only 11 interceptions last season. Samuel's presence within Johnson's five- and six-man pressure schemes will serve a dual purpose: He'll have plenty of opportunities to jump the short routes, thus giving the Eagles' defense more scoring chances. Plus, with every interception, Samuel will be in line for bigger paydays. Included in Samuel's six-year, $57 million contract are several playing incentives that could boost the value of the pact to $61.4 million.

"I know I can still play, but it's like I told my wife, I'm just tired mentally. I'm just tired," -Brett Favre

After flirting with retirement for years, Brett Favre means it this time. The Green Bay Packers quarterback ended a 17-season career in which he dazzled fans with his grit, heart and rocket of an arm.

"I know I can still play, but it's like I told my wife, I'm just tired mentally. I'm just tired," Favre told ESPN's Chris Mortensen in a voice mail message.

Tuesday's surprise move comes just months since the 38-year-old three-time MVP set several league records, including most career touchdown passes, in one of his most successful seasons.

Coach Mike McCarthy said Favre informed him of the decision by telephone Monday night.

"He said it was time for him to hang up the cleats," McCarthy said at a news conference Tuesday afternoon.

Favre's agent, Bus Cook, also learned of the decision Monday.

"Nobody pushed Brett Favre out the door, but then nobody encouraged him not to go out that door, either," Cook told The Associated Press by phone from his Hattiesburg, Miss., office.

Packers general manager Ted Thompson thanked Favre for 16 years of wonderful memories with the team.

"His accomplishments are legendary," Thompson said. "And it's the passion with which he played that made everyone a Brett Favre fan."

The team hasn't said when Favre might address the media.

Favre led the Packers to the NFC championship Game in January, but his interception in overtime set up the New York Giants' winning field goal.

"If I felt like coming back -- and Deanna (Favre's wife) and I talked about this -- the only way for me to be successful would be to win a Super Bowl," Favre told ESPN. "To go to the Super Bowl and lose, would almost be worse than anything else. Anything less than a Super Bowl win would be unsuccessful."

Last season, Favre broke Dan Marino's career records for most touchdown passes and most yards passing and John Elway's record for most career victories by a starting quarterback.

He retires with 5,377 career completions in 8,758 attempts for 61,655 yards, 442 touchdowns and 288 interceptions.

"He was the prototypical gun-slinger type," said Marv Levy, Pro Football Hall of Fame coach. "He's the type of guy where, 'Oh, what's he throwing into that crowd for?' But he had intuition, toughness, resilience."

Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman wondered if Favre's decision was final.

"As the season gets closer, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he changes his mind," said Aikman, a Fox analyst who played 12 years with the Dallas Cowboys.

The news stunned many.

"I was surprised when I heard it this morning," former Packers general manager Ron Wolf said. "He played with such a great passion. He must have figured he no longer had that passion, and it was time to get out."

Even Favre's teammates didn't see it coming.

"I just saw it come across the TV," Packers wide receiver Koren Robinson said, when reached on his cell phone by The Associated Press.

In his final season, Favre also extended his quarterback-record streak of consecutive regular-season starts to 253 games -- illustrating his trademark toughness. Add the playoffs, and Favre's streak stands at 275.

"To me he's an ironman," seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong said after speaking at an anti-smoking rally in Wisconsin's capital. "He was around a long time. He played hard the whole time. He worked hard the whole time. He inspired and encouraged his team the whole time. He played through pain, he played through losses."

In the past several offseasons, Favre's indecision about his football future became a winter tradition in Wisconsin, with Cheeseheads hanging on his every word.

Unlike after the 2006 season -- when Favre choked up in a television interview as he walked off the field in Chicago, only to return once again -- nearly everyone assumed he would be back next season.

It was a remarkable turnaround from 2005, Favre's final season under former head coach Mike Sherman, when he threw a career-worst 29 interceptions as the Packers went 4-12.

Surrounded by an underrated group of wide receivers who proved hard to tackle after the catch, Favre had a career-high completion percentage of 66.5. He threw for 4,155 yards, 28 touchdowns and only 15 interceptions.

Before the Packers' Jan. 12 divisional playoff game against Seattle, Favre told his hometown newspaper that he wasn't approaching the game as if it would be his last and was more optimistic than in years past about returning.

"For the first time in three years, I haven't thought this could be my last game," Favre told the Biloxi (Miss.) Sun Herald. "I would like to continue longer."

But Favre finished the season on a sour note, struggling in subzero temperatures in a 23-20 overtime loss to the New York Giants in the NFC Championship Game.

Afterward, Favre was noncommittal on his future. McCarthy said he wanted Favre to take a step back from the season before making a decision.

Now he has -- to walk away.

"The Packers owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude," Thompson said in a statement. "The uniqueness of Brett Favre his personality, charisma and love of the game -- undoubtedly will leave him as one of the enduring figures in NFL history."

Sean Landeta Retires...What it means to the Eagle Fans...

25 years to the day after it all started in pro football for Sean Landeta, it has come to an official end. A career that began in Philadelphia with a USFL team called the Philadelphia Stars has ended with two Super Bowl rings with the N.Y. Giants and a place on the 75th All-Time team as the best punter in Philadelphia Eagles history. He is that officially the last USFL player to retire from the NFL.

I spoke to Landeta a few minutes ago, and as always, he didn't make it about him. True to his nature, it was more important for him to thank me for calling to congratulate him, than it was to talk about his amazing career as one of the best punters in NFL history. I've known Landeta for years, and whether he's talking to Joe Namath or a waitress at a restaurant, everyone gets treated as though they are the most important.

But, he was just as good on the field as he is off of it. A student of the game, Landeta respects his craft to the utmost and has no problem breaking down the science of the punt or the stats of his fellow kickers. He wasn't just a fan of the sport, but a fan of the league as well.

Landeta punted in 284 games and is the only player in NFL history to record 17 straight seasons with a 42-yard average or better. He kicked 1,401 times for 60,707 yards for a 43.3-yard career average, second only to the Colts' Rohn Stark.

I think it's well known that the first punter to get into the Hall of Fame has to be the Oakland Raiders' Ray Guy. I've spoken with former NFL players from his era that were surprised he wasn't already in. The Hall of Fame committee needs to realize that punter is an important position and should have some representation in Canton, starting with Guy.

Landeta, however, shouldn't be too far behind.

Fitzgerald and 2nd round pick to RAVENs possible for Terrel Suggs and 1st round pick!!!

Could it be? Cardinals trading Larry Fitzgerald and 2nd round pick to the RAvens for Terrel Suggs and 1st round pick?! This trade would certainly be interesting if it does indeed play out. Terrel Suggs is a grad from chandler high in Arizona and he played his college ball at Arizona State and his family lives in Arizona and he also said he would like to come home and play for the Cardinals back in January. Plus Fitzgerald would be the big time receiver the ravens have never have and would help rebuild the ravens. But, would Fitz be satisfied there?

There are Fools Running the Cardinals...Agree!?

The Arizona Cardinals are trying to find some comfort as they are squeezed under the pressure of Larry Fitzgerald's enormous salary. They're considering extending the contract of backup quarterback Kurt Warner as a means of freeing up some salary cap space.

The Cards are trying to get Fitzgerald to restructure in contract, but they haven't been successful as of yet. The star receiver is unwilling to give back any money so there's no telling whether they'll ever be able to get anything done. If Fitzgerald and the Cards fail to restructure his deal, they'll be left looking stupid and being exposed as the fools that they are.

If Arizona's front office and traded Fitzgerald just before free agency, All-Pro offensive guard Alan Faneca would be a Cardinal. He wanted to come to Arizona and the team's coaching staff wanted him. The fact that the Cards hung onto to Fitzgerald and his enormous salary, it took them out of the free agent sweepstakes.

Now if the Cardinals trade Fitzgerald, they won't have in free agents to sign. This is the reason the Cards have been stuck in or near the basement of the NFL for such a long time.

They have fools running their football team.

Aaron Rodger prayed for Favre's retirement

Who in the right mind would not want to start in the NFL? Rodgers waited a long grueling 3 years for this and probably wished Favre's retirement came sooner. In the interview and publicly, Rodgers probably expressed sadness at a loss of a great player, but anyone think that Rodgers went to the extreme and prayed for Favre's retirement every night every offseason? Just throwing it out there.

Walker is just as good as Moss?

Is it just me or do I find the Raiders absolutely stubborn or naive? Deal for Walker includes a six-year, $55 million contract that includes more than $16 million in guarantees and pays him roughly $27 million over the first three years of the deal. Holy %@#$. Interestingly, Moss received a three year deal worth 27 million too. Numbers tell me that Walker is just as good as Moss. I just find the deal absolutely ridiculous. I know the only reason Raiders had to offer Walker that much money was because no body wants to come to play for the Raiders since it's a losing organization, but still...We'll see if Walker is worth that much money. Food for thought...
