Mercury announce Coach Westhead's departure

I am sad that Westhead is indeed leaving the Mercury, but it comes as no big surprise. Now the question is: who will the new coach be?

I hate Coach Westhead is leaving, but I guess he did what he was suppose to do and thats bring a Championship to the city of Phoenix. I read somewhere that Corey Gains might be the next head coach, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Yeah, the Mercury GM has said they are considering Gains, along with some other candidates. I think Gains would do a good job -- after all, he is from the Westhead school of "run and gun" style play. I just hope that whoever comes in doesn't change the Mercury M.O. too much.

I don't think Dee or Ann Myers Drysdale is going to let that happen. They have time to find a coach that can keep the "run and gun" style going. I think Corey Gains will be a good decision because he played under coach Westhead and he's been an assistant under him for the past 2 yrs.
