Pregnant Margo Dydek might retire

Connecticut Sun center Margo Dydek is pregnant with her first child and will not play for her Spanish team in the WNBA off-season. The article also mentions that her future in the WNBA is doubtful.

I'd hate to see Margo go (just watching the 7"2 player dwarf everybody else on the court is awesome), but I understand where she's coming from.

No more Margo Dydek in the WNBA?...

I don't know why, but my first thought when quickly read the name Margo was "Oh my god, Darko is pregnant." On a serious note, how many women retire after having a child? Has anyone come back better than they were before? I'm not an avid WNBA follower.

I can't think of any WNBA players who've come back after having a baby...yet. Lisa Leslie of the LA Sparks recently had a baby, and does plan to come back next season. I'll be interested to see how that unfolds -- she's one of the most legendary players in the brief history of the WNBA.

Tina Thompson of the Houston Comets came back after she had her son, and she played great on a team that didn't do so hot this past season!

"...my first thought when quickly read the name Margo was 'Oh my god, Darko is pregnant.'"

Ha, me too.

This is ludacris do any female players make it pass the 12-13 year mark. if dydek retires there will be all out pandamonium.

Sheryl Swoopes came back from childbirth early in her WNBA career.
I believe she won MVP a few years following.

Don't forget DeMya Walker of the Sacramento Monarchs came back and then she blew out her knee! But at least she came back!

Pretty much every formerly pregnant WNBA player has come back. Maybe a few low-profile ones have not. But as in most jobs, it is abnormal to retire when one has a child. However, since Dydek never really played, she has little to retire from. Sh'es not a favorite of mine. I find her lazy, weak and wussy. I once heard her quoted that she didn't play heard because she thought it was an unfair advantage to do so with her height. Wimpy wimpy wimpy!

I'm just heart broken. It means my fantasy is serious about someone else. At least she answers me on myspace.

Margo never really played because she never had a coach who will be able to use her height. All what will take is to have good high pass to her. Nobody can take ball from her if she have high pass. Every ball possession should end in her hands. I met her personally, I talk to her. She is a great person. I wish WNBA team will build team around her. Nobody can stop her. Nobody can defend against her height.

Amen., no coach that Margo has had has used her properly. I wish one of the expansion teams would talk her out of retirement, sign her, and build a team around her. She will shine and the team will be unstoppable.
