Well the WNBA season is over and it ended just the way I knew it would. Dee finally getting her ring! The Phoenix Mercury won the WNBA Championship and did it with class. And Damn did Mazz step up or what!! JEEEZ! (And she got a parade!)
But anyway, the WNBA, where is the hype? Seriously the Mercury should have been on some of the big talk shows, or at least put DT on there because she has more entertainment talent than most people on TV anyway!!! But the Mercury won the championship and had a celebration in Phoenix. No Tonight Show, no Letterman, no The View, no Ellen.... nothing.
If any other sport/athlete would have won a championship they would have been somehwhere on national television, but not the WNBA.
I guess I have to wonder about who is to blame for it, is it the WNBA, is it media, is it agents, players, fans? Well I have to take the blame off the players because I would bet my life that DT could go onto Leno and be amazing and even pull more fans into the world of womens basketball. DT is a funny chick! The fans...., you cant blame us, you know we want to see it! So, is the mainstream media just not there? Are agents not taking their women clients as serious? Or does the WNBA just not know what its following is looking for?
Maybe its a variety of things.
Do we have to have Pierson biting off someones ear, Hammon using human growth hormones, or LJ getting a DUI for some coverage????
Out of all the sports right now the WNBA is always positive, I mean sure we got Goon Ball in Detroit (yeah I said it! lol) but other than that the WNBA is positive basketball at its highest level.
So where is the coverage? Where is the hype? Im starving here!
Taurasi is the BEST thing in womens basketball.... period!
As I watched the footage of the WNBA Champions the Phoenix Mercury arrive at the airport I watched as the team came through the screaming fans, hi fives all the way through, but then here came DT... full of life, full of energy, hi fiving fans, shaking hands, hugging fans, signing autographs, stopping for pictures and to jump on anyones recording that had a video camera. DT doesnt stop giving back to basketball or to her fans. DT is what the WNBA needs to promote, DT is what the WNBA needs to hop on and ride because her personality alone can carry the league some distance.
Why do we love DT? Her emotion! It is all right there for you to see, if she is pissed you know it! If she is happy, you know it! If she is acting goofy, you see it. We love that DT is quick to show how pissed she is at calls and non-calls, we love to watch video clips of DT being silly, and whether you are a Mercury fan or not, you love to see DT play the game. We love to see DT be DT.
DT has always showed that raw passion for ball. Look back at her UConn days and you see it, it has just grown into something fierce now. So I am going to go ahead and say REPEAT right now lol!
So this has turned into a PRO-TAURASI blog with the quickness! But I cant help that, because I know that if someone would have made the Leno show or Letterman happen then it would have benefited the league in so many ways. Shit where is Arsenio Hall when you need him! lol!
