It's that kind of Wrestling thing
It's that feeling you get when you step out onto the mat, it's a rush of adrenaline piercing through every vein. It's the pounding in you head when you hear the people you love cheering loud and proud for you. It's the anticipation of waiting for the ref to blow the whistle. It's about performing your best and giving it your all no matter what. It's all about those intense weeks of training. It's in that moment you know exactly what your there for. Exactly what needs to get done. You dig as deep as you can go and with every ounce of effort you go in for the kill. It's the sport of wrestling. It's the type of sport made specificly for mentaly strong people. A sport made for those who are out to prove something and achieve their goals. In my eyes, it is the best sport out there.
I am not talking about WWE either. Sure that is a type of wrestling. But it is more of entertainment then endurance. Alot of people get the wrong impression when they hear about high school wrestling or university wrestling. "Isn't that where you go in a ring and jump off the top ropes?" no. it is not. "I was waiting for you to tag team your buddy over there and hit them with a metal chair!" not even close. Those are just some phrases i have heard. (yes people have actually said/asked me those.) I believe that the actual sport of wrestling doesn't get enough credit as it should. I guess i am a little biassed but i just love it and i want people to have the same love i have. But it is hard to get your sport out there when there is such publicity for WWE or Hulk Hogan's celebrity wrestling. I don't mean to attack them but the type of wrestling i live for.. is not even close to what they show on there. We don't get wild costumes, we don't get to yell and verbally attack our opponent, we don't get to close line, and we don't get to use metal objects or jump off top ropes. It is simply ourself the opponent, the ref, and the mat. Nothing else. In that small tiny circle is where we get to perform our sport. Show our technique, get points and look for a pin. Two minutes is all we get. No two hour pay-per-view for us. Just two minutes each round to give er' all we got. I encourage everyone to actually go out and watch some local team wrestling from a university or high school. I guarantee once you watch it once, you will fall in love with it.
