Big Show: Analyzing a Possible Face Turn

The Big Show is one of the most seasoned and accomplished superstars in WWE and has spent time as both a heel and a babyface throughout his career. His heel turn at Over the Limit 2012 was predictable and pathetic. Big Show was forced to cry in the middle of the ring by John Laurinaitis who then rehired Show to help him against John Cena. Personally, if someone made me cry at work, the last thing I would do is help them. With The Shield’s recent attacks on Big Show, are we seeing yet another turn by the largest athlete? Is a face turn in the best interest of the Big Show? When Big Show was a babyface most recently, he was often portrayed a giant goof. Tons of smiling and being nice to children. That’s not a great way to portray a giant in wrestling. A giant should be destroying through people left and right, taking out anyone who gets in his path. We were finally seeing that when Big Show turned heel at the aforementioned pay-per-view, despite the weak way he turned. The heel character he has portrayed since May 2012 is the one that he should have been his entire career. It is the character that most resembles the giant he debuted as in 1999. Perhaps, the heel Big Show is the one that can ultimately end the undefeated streak of The Shield. It seems strange that WWE has put another superstar into the mix of feuding with The Shield when there is Sheamus, Randy Orton, Ryback and Chris Jericho as all possibilities in a six-man tag match. For whatever reason, it seems as though Ryback just doesn’t care about revenge on The Shield at this point. After Raw, it looks as though Ryback will begin a feud with Mark Henry. Chris Jericho hasn’t been on WWE TV in a couple of weeks so he may not be involved either. It looks as though it will be Sheamus, Randy Orton and Big Show against The Shield at WrestleMania. However, Big Show should stay heel throughout this feud. Big Show may gain some fans while feuding with Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins, but his attitude and demeanor should not change. While the chokeslam is more monster-like, WWE’s PG style seems to prefer Big Show’s big punch. Either way, Big Show should keep the heelish attitude that helps him come off as a monster. He should not settle for big smiles and loving the fans. Big Show’s smile is not something he should be bragging about anyway. He doesn’t need to suck up to the fans, but he also doesn’t need to hate them. It appears as though Big Show will continue to use his WMD punch to try to take out The Shield, but this also could be a trick. If Big Show is not turning babyface, then he could be the leader of the group. Show’s accidental punch to Reigns is what began The Shield’s attacks on Big Show, but it could all be just a misunderstanding. Chances are Big Show becomes another tweener like Daniel Bryan and Kane, who don’t act like superheroes similar to John Cena and Sheamus. Big Show will continue his monster-like tendencies, but won’t completely turn. And no, Big Show probably is not the leader of The Shield. But he could be what WWE needs to end The Shield.
