WNZ - WrestleNewz.com:
At WrestleMania 29, WWE Champion The Rock will defend the title against either John Cena or CM Punk…or both. On Raw, CM Punk convinced John Cena to put his WrestleMania title shot on the line against Punk next week. This seems to be a great set up to make the WWE Championship match a triple threat involving The Rock, John Cena and CM Punk. Here are a number of reasons why the match should be a triple threat.
The match on Raw next week between CM Punk and John Cena will most likely end in controversy. There is no other reason to have the match. If WWE wanted to have Cena versus Rock part two, it is already set up. CM Punk has lost to The Rock twice already. If Punk wasn’t going to be involved in the match, The Undertaker or someone else would be beginning a feud with Punk. The real mystery is how the match will end in controversy.
The WWE title match needs to be a triple threat because there isn’t anyone else worthy of facing CM Punk at WrestleMania. The one exception may be The Undertaker, but I have always been against the idea. Now that Punk isn’t even champion, the match makes little sense. Plus, The Undertaker isn’t even confirmed to have a match at WrestleMania. If The Undertaker takes this year off, who would face CM Punk? Sheamus? Ryback again? A triple threat match is the only one that makes sense.
CM Punk deserves to be in the main event of WrestleMania 29. After holding the WWE Championship for 434 days, he deserves it. Punk took a backseat to John Cena at almost every pay-per-view during his title reign. Cena’s match against John Laurinaitis even ended a pay-per-view over Punk’s WWE title match. Punk faced Chris Jericho last year at WrestleMania for the WWE title, while The Rock faced John Cena. Cena versus Rock part one is an exception, but Punk has earned the right to main event WrestleMania 29.
The final reason why the WWE title match should be a triple threat encounter is because like many others, I don’t want to see John Cena versus The Rock part two. Part of the reason is because of the tagline, once in a lifetime. However, The Score’s Arda Ocal made a good point on Twitter that every mega match has occurred more than once. Hogan versus Andre the Giant, The Rock versus Stone Cold Steve Austin and even Hulk Hogan versus The Rock all occurred on multiple occasions. Another part of the reason why I don’t want to see Cena and Rock again is because the last year and a half has been about Punk. There has been a lot of focus on Punk’s title reign ever since his heel turn on Raw 1000. The focus is still on Punk.
Between having so much focus on CM Punk, lack of suitable opponents and his opportunity to join Cena and Rock on Raw, the WWE title match will end up being a triple threat. There is no other option for CM Punk that matches up to the level a triple threat match would provide. The years of 2012 and 2013 in WWE have been all about three superstars – The Rock, John Cena and CM Punk. That is why the WWE title match at WrestleMania 29 will be a triple threat.
What do you think? Will the WWE title match at WrestleMania 29 be a triple threat? Why or why not?
