Athletes who should have their own reality shows

Reality shows have been with us for decades now, and almost from the beginning, professional athletes have been a part of them. "Survivor" has had plenty of retired athletes, "Basketball Wives" has had seven seasons and "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" has included athletes/love interests ranging from Reggie Bush to Lamar Odom.

Reality TV is so huge that even one of the NFL’s least charismatic stars in its history, Jay Cutler, is currently appearing on his wife’s reality show, "Very Cavallari." If Cutler, a man who showed zero emotion even after tearing his MCL in a playoff game, can be on a reality show, literally anyone else can.

Here’s a group of athletes who could really revolutionize the world of reality TV.

There’s a large pool of spouses, ex-wives and girlfriends available for "Basketball Wives," but there’s almost as big a talent pool for the new spinoff, "Kardashian Husbands." With a star-studded cast including Tristan Thompson, Kris Humphries, Reggie Bush, Lamar Odom and 2018 NBA MVP James Harden, it’s a rare look at the men of the Kardashian-Jenner orbit. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you’ll be shocked Humphries once made $12 million per year!

Antoine Griezmann
Witters Sport-USA TODAY Sports

The French World Cup star takes center stage in this dancing/goal celebration competition. Griezmann was France’s designated penalty taker, and during the Cup, he did the “Take the L” dance from "Fortnite" after makes (although it looked like a Bluth family chicken dance). This show would be like "America’s Next Dance Crew," only it’s "France’s Next Goal Celebration Crew," and everyone smokes cigarettes. They’ve promised to clean things up after the pilot, during which the losing team fell down and pretended to be injured to draw a penalty.

Joel Embiid

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

There’s never been an African-American "Bachelor " before, but it should be Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid. He’s already shown he has the necessary charisma and good looks, but after blocking 111 shots last year, Embiid has demonstrated he has no problem with rejections. He’d also trash talk "Bachelor" Arie Luyendyk relentlessly. The only danger in making Embiid the "Bachelor" is that he might get down on one knee in the finale and propose to Rihanna instead.

Mike Trout

Harrison Barden-USA TODAY Sports

Mike Trout is unquestionably the greatest player in baseball, but he’s surprisingly unknown among the general public. That’s where "Mike Trout: Fishing in America" comes in. The publicity-averse Trout takes a camera crew out in a rowboat each week, barely speaking or looking at the camera for hours as they wait for a bite. While it’s tedious and slow, the producers insist the show is still more exciting than a baseball game.

Giannis Antetokounmpo
Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

This summer, smoothie enthusiast Giannis Antetokounmpo has been trying classic American foods: Kool-Aid, corn dogs and Funyuns. This should obviously be a TV show, "Giannis Bless America," and include Giannis’ brothers, Thanasis and Kostas. In fact, put them all together with his new teammate, Disneyland superfan Brook Lopez, and let them try all the foods and all the rides in the park.

Alexander Ovechkin
Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

In "Ovie & Stanley ," Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals takes the Stanley Cup on an international tour, drunk nearly the entire time. Sometimes Ovechkin will discuss the bars he visits or the history of the towns, but usually he’ll just yell, sing, do shots and splash around in public fountains.

Brittney Griner

In "Blocked! ," Brittney Griner of the Phoenix Mercury meets up with people who have talked trash about WNBA basketball on the internet. Griner goes and plays them and absolutely destroys them, showing no mercy and dunking at every opportunity. After the inevitable loss, the defeated folks have to delete their accounts.

In "I Can See For Biles and Biles," gold medalist Simone Biles trains for her return to the Olympics in 2020. She also spends a lot of time just doing flips over things. She does all her interviews on a balance beam or hanging upside down.

Ryan Lochte

Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

In "Ryan Lochte Does Stupid Things," former Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte does something embarrassing or illegal on camera. There’s not even a high concept to this show: He already got suspended for posting a photo on Instagram showing him getting an illegal IV. Whether he’s fighting at a gas station in a foreign country or failing a drug test, Lochte is going to do something really dumb, and it’s going to be captured on film.

Paul Pierce

It didn’t work when he was playing his final year, but "Paul Pierce’s Retirement Tour" follows The Truth as he visits NBA cities, hanging around the arenas and hoping some team will give him an unremembered gift or some fan will ask him for an autograph. SPOILER: No one will give him a gift. They don’t love him like that.

It'll be picked up for 10 episodes or until Bauer’s loss of blood makes it too dangerous.

Aaron Judge & Giancarlo Stanton

Yankees sluggers Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton preside over their version of "The People’s Court": "Judge Giancarlo ." Whereas Judge Wapner based his decisions on California law, Judge and Stanton follow the only law they know: dingers. Each side presents its case, and then the decision is made by a home-run hitting contest — guest starring Gary Sanchez as the bailiff who can’t catch anybody.

Kobe Bryant

In "Kobe Doin’ Work ," Spike Lee famously focused 30 cameras on Kobe Bryant for a single game against the Spurs during the 2007-08 season. "Kobe Still Doin’ Work" features the same intense commitment to chronicling Kobe but for his retired life. We’ll see him work on his puppeteering with Lil Mamba, his voice-overs for his ESPN show "Detail ," and his tireless efforts to deface each and every LeBron James mural that goes up in Los Angeles.

These two greats have been retired for over a decade, but their competitive streak surely still exists. The first season features a thrilling cliffhanger when Pete Sampras tries to buy the house across the street.

Elvis Andrus & Adrian Beltre

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The two Rangers teammates and occasional antagonists need a buddy series to explore their dynamic further. That’s why "All Caps" will feature the two of them running a Lids franchise at a mall outside in Arlington. Will Andrus fume at Beltre’s control-freak attitude toward pricing? Will Andrus keep touching Beltre’s head during arguments? And will new intern Shin-Soo Choo get caught in the middle?

Kyrie Irving

Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

In "The Voyage of the Flat Earther," Kyrie Irving and his loyal pet mouse set out on a sea journey to find the edge of the Earth or, at the very least, the King of Basketball, the lion Aslebron. It’s like a combination of "Deadliest Catch" and a YouTube video about chemtrails. Don’t worry, for the safety of the participants, ace sailor Marc Gasol will be coming along.

Phil Mickelson

Rob Gronkowski

Tom Brady had "Tom vs. Time," a web series about his rigorous training and home life. Now teammate Rob Gronkowski has a show about his offseason regimen, called "Rob vs. Closing Time." Gronk shows off his workout program of keg stands, 12-ounce curls and wrestling with his giant brothers. The best part is Gronk will have plenty of time to film Season 2 while he’s suspended for things that happened in Season 1.

Nick Foles

Nick Foles
Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

There’s nothing better than being a Super Bowl hero. That is, unless you’re Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles, who is a Super Bowl hero who doesn’t have to go to work. "Backup Plan" follows Foles as he’s lavished with fan attention and free meals, while also working the greatest job in America: backup quarterback. While Carson Wentz pores over game film, Foles can truly cut loose with the grateful fans of Philadelphia, since his biggest weekly responsibility is holding a clipboard.

Loser gets sacked.

Jusuf Nurkic

Jusuf Nurkic
Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

In "Keep Portland Nurk," the Blazers center explores the city of Portland from the perspective of a seven-foot Bosnian bruiser. He’ll check out the best bike trails, the most overpriced coffee and the tastiest, most self-important vegan restaurants in the city. All the while, Nurkic struggles with self-doubt: Was his earlier basketball career better, when he was an unknown who hadn’t gone mainstream yet? Are the Blazers’ playoff chances so bad they’re good?
