It’s official, one of the best possible fights in boxing has been confirmed, with Juan Francisco Estrada (44-3 28 KOs) defending his WBC and Ring Magazine world super-flyweight titles against the undefeated Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez (19-0 12 KOs) at Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday, June 29, live on DAZN.

Juan Francisco Estrada vs. Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez Confirmed

Both Fighters React to Fight Confirmation

Estrada will return to the ring for the first time since he defeated his old rival Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez in the final part of their memorable trilogy. It was a closely fought battle, that saw the Mexican fighter edge out his bitter rival by majority decision. That victory gave the 33-year-old, the 2-1 advantage in their famous trilogy, and now he goes in against one of the best young champions in the world of boxing, who has shown his class during his 19 professional wins.

“Bam” returns to the ring following a memorable win to unify at flyweight, when he defeated Sunny Edwards on December 16, 2023. He will be looking to build on that stunning performance and win back the strap he won previously against Carlos Cuadras in 2022.

Rodriguez is exceptional when he gets behind his jab, it’s such a potent weapon for him. He is adept at controlling the distance and stepping on the gas when needed. “Bam” is also a difficult fighter to read as he varies his attacks so well. Estrada is an impressive counter puncher, who picks his punches well. He pivots smartly out of range after firing off his combinations. “El Gallo” is also one of the west low-weight boxers of all time.

Juan Francisco Estrada and Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez Reactions

Estrada spoke about the reasons for his inactivity and his feelings about the upcoming fight: “I’m very happy to announce my return against Bam Rodriguez.” He continued: “After my last victory against Chocolatito we took a good break and was able to spend quality time with my family and my kids and heal an injury I was dealing with.

“I will be more than ready since I know Rodriguez is a dangerous fighter, but in June it will be clear that there is plenty of ‘Gallo’ excitement to come.”

“Fighting for my fourth world title against a legend like ‘Gallo’ is huge,” said Rodriguez. “This is a fight I’ve been wanting for a while and I’m ready to prove myself once again.

“On June 29, you guys will see another special performance. AND THE NEW!”

Eddie Hearn and DAZN React

“What a fight this is,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “When the best fight the best, excitement is guaranteed – and there’s no doubt that these are two of the best fighters on the planet.

“There are so many plot lines for us all to get our teeth into in the build-up to this incredible clash – but when the bell goes, the talking will stop, and we will be treated to something very special. Both fighters are to be commended for taking on the challenge – will ‘Gallo’ prove too much too soon for Jesse, or can ‘Bam’ add Juan’s name to his already incredible CV?”

Alfie Sharman, the VP at DAZN spoke on the fight news: “Another blockbuster fight to add to our already unrivaled schedule.”

Sharman added: “Bam is not messing around; first he takes on and beats Sunny Edwards – one of the most avoided fighters in the sport – in December and now he faces a legend of the sport in June in Estrada. Do not miss this fight! Tune in live, June 29, only on DAZN”.
