Retired boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. loves basketball and wants to own a team. So much so, that he’s made an offer of more than $2 billion to buy one, he said, as relayed by Daily Loud, via Brad Sullivan of AHN FireDigital.

He did not specify which team — and it is not believed that any are for sale, or even any stakes in a team. With that kind of dough, however, Mayweather could become a majority owner if someone bit.

“I’ve been working on buying a NBA team outright,” Mayweather said. “One of my other business partners, Brent Johnson, he’s here. So we’ve been working on the NBA team for a while now. It’s kinda, it’s rough.”

He added that he could buy an expansion team, should one become available, with the rumored locations being Seattle and Las Vegas. It should be noted, though, that the NBA has been fairly tight-lipped about adding franchises, and doesn’t appear to have plans to do so at the moment.

“It could be the Vegas franchise. It could be the Seattle franchise or I could be buying a franchise that’s already up and running,” Mayweather said. “So the first offer, we offered them a little over $2 billion for majority ownership. Do I have it? Absolutely, I have it, but it didn’t happen overnight. It didn’t happen overnight. It’s a lot when you have so many different businesses all around the world. It’s a lot.”

Mayweather, 45, finished his boxing career at 50-0, with 27 knockouts.
