According to Dan Rafael, the intriguing contest between Israil Madrimov and Magomed Kurbanov on the “Knockout Chaos” undercard is off. The fight was due to be for the now-vacant WBA junior middleweight strap, which was stripped from Jermell Charlo, who is now reclassified by the WBA as its “champion in recess.”

Madrimov vs. Kurbanov off Due to Medical Issue

Madrimov vs. Kurbanov Cancelled

The breaking news from Rafael details how the Israil Madrimov-Magomed Kurbanov bout for the now-vacant WBA 154 title is off. The fight was to be one of the more intriguing contests on the stacked March 8 card due to both fighters being undefeated. It seemed these two were finally set to meet after agreeing to the fight months ago, but it was delayed for reasons far beyond their control, as revealed by Jake Donovan at Ring Magazine.

The fight between the two unbeaten fighters was even more fascinating with the WBA title set to be on the line – but with Madrimov being ruled out due to an issue with a pre-fight medical scan conducted by the BBBofC (event regulator), the bout is now off. It remains to be seen if these two will finally meet in the future.

WBA Title Now Vacant

Jermell Charlo (35-2-1, 19 KOs) became the first four-belt undisputed junior middleweight champion when he defeated Brian Castano in the 10th round to unify the division in 2022 – in a rematch of their previous draw. As reported by Dan Rafael on his Fight Freaks Unite SubStack, Charlo has now been reclassified by the WBA as its “champion in recess,” which gave the Madrimov-Kurbanov contest an extra layer of intrigue.
