June is set to be a huge month for the sport of boxing. While May 18 will likely attract new fans due to the clash between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk in their conquest to become the undisputed heavyweight champion, boxing is set to position itself best to capitalize on that potential new interest in the following month. Wherever you look, there are huge contests – scheduled to take place in the June boxing schedule, with some of the best and biggest names in the sport donning their gloves and competing hand-to-hand.
Looking at the June Boxing Schedule
June 1: Beginning the Month With a Bang
The beginning of June will kick things off with a bang, as the card features a host of fights that will pique interest.
Although it’s a disappointment that Artur Beterbiev won’t be going up against Dmitry Bivol due to a knee injury, The WBA champ will still fight on the stacked card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This is as the country looks to further stake its claim to be the world’s fight capital and take it from Las Vegas.
Bivol, who holds a recent decision win over Canelo Alvarez in May 2022, will put a record of 22-0 on the line against little-known Libyan Malik Zinad in a fight to stay busy and await Beterbiev to heal up for a potential reschedule of their undisputed bout late in 2024.
That fight will be added to the Queensberry Promotions vs. Matchroom Boxing ” 5 vs. 5 ” card. The new main event will have former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder taking on Chinese heavyweight Zhilei Zhang, while the undefeated Croatian Filip Hrgovic will go against Britain’s Daniel Dubois.
It is no surprise that these contests are a potential betting opportunity, and of course, boxing betting is a popular pastime with punters on the biggest fights, and this card will be no different. This is, especially as the odds are pretty close.
For instance, you can get Zhang for his fight with odds of 1.57 compared to Wilder’s 2.38 available, while Hrgovic is expected to continue his winning streak and go 18-0 with odds of 1.47 (compared to Dubois’ price of 2.65).
June 15: Two Title Fights and Three Undefeated Boxers on the Card
Just two weeks later, fans will be able to witness more competitive boxing when the action heads to Las Vegas. June 15 will see two title bouts, and three of the four boxers will head into their clashes with undefeated records.
The main event of that evening will be the encounter between American duo Gervonta Davis and Frank “the Ghost” Martin. Both men hold undefeated records (29-0 and 18-0, respectively) and will compete for the WBA World Lightweight Title, currently held by Davis. The defending champion is currently the big favourite ahead of the contest, with odds of 1.17. In contrast, Martin is at 5.10.
Elsewhere, a fight between the undefeated David Benavidez (28-0) and Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-1) for the Interim WBC World Light Heavyweight Title. Benavidez is also the favourite in this matchup, with the same odds being available as they are for the headline fight of this card for both fighters. Interestingly, Benavidez may already have his focus on what could happen with a win, as he reportedly wants Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in his next bout.
June 29: Estrada vs Rodriguez Rounds off a Hard-Hitting June
The final huge contest of the month will take place in Phoenix, Arizona, where Juan Francisco Estrada and Jesse Rodriguez will compete for the WBC World, Ring Magazine Super Flyweight Title. The 34-year-old Mexican will defend the title, but we could see a new champion crowned on the night.
The odds have Rodriguez the favourite with a price of 1.34, compared to the experienced fighter’s 3.20. This could be due to the age difference (10-year gap), or it could be down to the records that each individual has managed to amass. The American is undefeated with a 19-0 tally, whereas Estrada is 44-3, though his last defeat was back in 2018.
Whatever happens, boxing fans can look forward to a hard-hitting month of action throughout June.
