Following the conclusion of Tyler Denny defeating Felix Cash at the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham Eddie Hearn spoke to Matt Lenihan at Boxing Social – where he confirmed the shocking reason for the cancellation of Aqib Fiaz vs Kane Baker II. Matchroom Boxing had released a statement earlier in the day (June 22) that read: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, Aqib Fiaz vs Kane Baker 2 is now off.”

Kane Baker Fires Back After Betting Irregularities Revelation

Eddie Hearn Reveals Reason for Baker-Fiaz Cancellation

Kane Baker has also said on his Instagram: “After the information that has come to light about irregular betting, I would like to let my people know that there has been no illegal bets made from me, my team, or anyone I know. I would never be bribed into losing a fight and I have never placed a bet for myself to lose in my whole career and I believe my fights and record show this.”

The statement continued: “I am happy for the investigations to go ahead on myself, my family and anyone else. Also, any fight I’ve lost to also be checked. I can 100% confirm that the only bets placed on me would have been for me to win. I will update with further evidence in due course. Thanks to anyone supporting me through this b-------.”

The revelation by Hearn shocked the boxing world with the Matchroom Promoter saying: “In 15 years I’ve never dealt with a situation like this. Pre-fight, two weeks before, six weeks out, never ever. So it was a new one for me, very disappointing. The truth will come out. All the information I was given at the time made me feel extremely uncomfortable and resulted in me pulling the fight.”

Baker also addressed the situation on his Instagram story, adding sensational context to this story: “This whole situation only got flagged when a member of my family contacted the other team to ask why there was bribes and money at my hotel… The fight was never going ahead unless I agreed to take a dive.”

It feels like we have not heard the last of this unsavoury situation, with more surely to come in due course.
