The rematch between Liam Smith (33-3-1, 20 KOs) and Chris Eubank Jr. (32-3, 23 KOs) has officially been rescheduled for September 2. They will headline a card held at the AO Arena in Manchester, England. Fight fans will recognize that as the site of their first fight earlier this year. The bout will be a pay-per-view (PPV) shown exclusively on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK.
In January, the two clashed at a 159 lb catchweight. Smith dropped Eubank twice in round four, leaving Eubank on wobbly legs. Following the second knockdown, the fight was waved off by the referee. Despite going down twice, Eubank believed the bout was stopped early. As a result, he activated the rematch clause in order to avenge his stoppage loss.
Originally, the two were meant to have their rematch on June 17. As fight night approached, Smith suffered an injury in training and the fight was postponed to July 1. However, Smith was unable to recover in time. As a result, the undisputed title fight between Franchón Crews-Dezurn and Savannah Marshall became the headliner instead for that date.
Now, barring any mishap, Smith and Eubank will clash on September 2. The undercard has not been announced yet. However, fight fans can soon expect news of it in the coming weeks and months.
