Itauma’s Candid Post-Fight Interview with Box Nation

This was Itauma’s first fight in 2025, and it was a performance to remember against Balogun. The American tried to double up on his jab and back Itauma up, but the speed of the 20-year-old allowed him to land a smart left hand which knocked Balogun down. Despite this, he survived the round.

In the second round, Itauma landed a spiteful right hook, scoring another knockdown. Balogun showed his toughness by climbing to his feet and continuing. He moved forward towards Itauma who stepped back before landing a right hook, that knocked Balogun down for the third and final time, prompting the referee to step in. It was a brutal showing from Itauma, who became the WBO Intercontinental and WBA international heavyweight champion.

When speaking to Umar Ahmed from BoxNation after his win over Mike Balogun, Itauma reflected on how he was feeling after his latest victory: “Everyone expected me to do it. So, it’s like, there’s not a lot of joy from it. Maybe one day, when I get when an opposition, where people don’t think I’m gonna win.

“And then I overcome it, I might feel different. But as of right now, it’s what im supposed to do.”

When asked if he was happy with his performance, Itauma did not hesitate: “I am. I’m over the moon. I’m glad,” said Itauma.

He added: “Fulfilling people’s expectations is hard.”
