Oleksandr Usyk has revealed his belief that he would have the beating of WBC belt-holder Tyson Fury.

Usyk became the unified heavyweight champion of the world with an emphatic points victory over Anthony Joshua last month.

The only belt that is evading the Ukrainian is the WBC heavyweight title, which has been held by Tyson Fury ever since his emphatic knockout victory over Deontay Wilder in their second bout.

Should Usyk be successful in beating Anthony Joshua in their proposed spring rematch, the natural next step would be to pencil in a bout with Fury to crown an undisputed heavyweight champion – mandatories permitting.

You won’t be surprised to hear that Usyk would back himself to beat Fury, were the two to meet in the ring. He gave his best fighting talk while being interviewed by The Sun:

“Yes, of course, I do regard this fight a huge one. I see him as a very good fighter, good athlete, he talks a lot, he has a tongue.”

“He claims he’s the king of the kings, but it’s only he who thinks that. That’s what I can say about him.”

“Before my Joshua fight everyone was saying that I haven’t got a single chance to win and beat Joshua.”

“I used to hear those types of things throughout my life, but I am capable of beating Fury because I’m not boasting that I can just punish and beat every boxer in the world, but I just go to the gym and do my job.

It’d be a great fight and Usyk would have a fighting chance, but Fury has an air of invincibility about him following the thrilling trilogy with Wilder. The Gypsy King would head into the bout as favourite…
