Many people had doubts about Ryan Garcia’s dedication to this fight, and the WBC super lightweight champion, Devin Haney, noted that he had seen Garcia as being heavy from the start of the fight week. There isn’t any more speculation as Garcia came in 3.2 pounds over the 140-pound limit, making Saturday’s fight a non-title one.

Dan Rafael reported via his X account “High drama at #HaneyGarcia weigh-in (ceremonial is later). Haney strips down to make 140 but per person in the room, Garcia has not yet weighed but is going to be about 3 pounds overweight. The disaster continues.”

Rafael would later post “The sides have made a financial deal to go forward but way less than the $500k they shook on at the presser. That was not binding when it comes to actual contracts.”

Golden Boy Promotions went ahead and sent out a press release addressing the situation.

“Ryan has weighed-in over his contractual weight. He will honor the handshake made at the final press conference yesterday. We have a fight.”

This fight has taken more twists and turns than you would expect. The Haney vs Garcia fight tomorrow night will be a non-title one, but the reality is the fight’s attraction was more about Haney & Garcia than it was ever for a title. How will this one play out? The event’s anticipation level was just raised with today’s weigh-in fiasco.
