Tim Tszyu could vacate his WBO Junior Middleweight Title to secure a fight with Errol Spence Jr. if the Australian beats Sebastian Fundora.

That is according to his manager, Glen Jennings. Tszyu is preparing to take on Fundora on March 30 in PBC’s first PPV on Amazon Prime Video. The champion was expected to face Keith Thurman. But One Time withdrew from the fight after injuring his bicep in camp. The fight is now for two titles.

Tszyu will defend his WBO belt, but the vacant WBC Junior Middleweight Title is also up for grabs. The WBO recently ordered the winner of Tsyzu vs Fundora to face Terence Crawford next. Bud is the WBO Super Welterweight Champion, making him mandatory for the WBO belt now that he is moving up.

“Terence Crawford is a three-division WBO World Champion and a two-division undisputed world champion. Consequently, he was conferred the privileges and rights per his status as the WBO Super Champion. And let me clarify that such status is not a title but rather a designation. Therefore, Crawford is the sole, exclusive, and only Welterweight Champion in the WBO.

“Based on Crawford’s merits as a three-division WBO World Champion and two-division undisputed champion, we will allow him to enter the ring and participate as WBO welterweight champion against the winner of Tszyu vs Fundora,” WBC President Paco Valcarcel said

Tszyu Vs Spence

But Jennings has said his fighter could vacate for a fight with Spence. Those comments are understandable, given that a fight with Spence will earn Tszyu a bigger purse than Bud. Spence has a much bigger fanbase in the US. It will also be a big name on Tszyu’s resume, and a fight is potentially much easier than a fight with Crawford.

There are question marks over whether Spence is the same after getting stopped by Crawford in round nine. The fight will also be easier to sell since Spence and Tszyu are front-foot fighters, unlike Crawford, who is a counterpuncher.

And yet, those comments have to be taken with a pinch of salt. Jennings previously said that they would enter talks immediately with Crawford if they win. Spence’s name could be used to get more favorable terms with Crawford.

“So immediately after that fight, when everything becomes official, we’ll go straight into negotiations to see what we can get done. Of course, Tim will also have a WBC mandatory, which clouds the situation somewhat. But obviously, when Crawford comes into play, the entire boxing world sits up and takes notice,” Jennings stated

Tszyu Vs Fundora

But before that can be considered, Tszyu must beat Fundora. His opponent is a six-foot-five southpaw whose record stands at 20-1-1. Fundora suffered his first loss against Brian Mendoza in his last bout. Tszyu has already beaten Mendoza, but it is important to note that Fundora was dominating the fight before Mendoza caught him. But since Tszyu took the fight on less than two weeks’ notice, he knows he is in for a tough challenge. But the fighter backed himself to give a good performance.

“I live by that – never retreat. I fear no one. I would go into any fight, it doesn’t matter – two weeks, 12 days, tall guy, whoever they put in front of me. I’ve just got to adapt, change and take over. Mike Tyson did a lot of things in his prime, so hopefully I can do a Mike Tyson on him,” Tszyu stated
