On Friday, April 5, Super middleweight rising star Angel Chavez(10-0, 8 KOs) extended his 100% professional record with a dominating second-round TKO victory against Khainell Wheeler (7-5, 6 KOs) at the Wind Creek Events Center in Bethlehem. This was considered a step up in class against Wheeler, the Bethlehem native who has proven he carries power. This was also the first 8-round bout for Chavez, which he came through with flying colours.

Angel Chavez Reflects on KO Win

Despite fighting in his opponent’s hometown, Chavez took control early on. The first round was somewhat strategic, but the second round saw the 22-year-old Merced native land a beautifully timed right uppercut, which he backed up with an accurate left hook to Wheeler’s head, which staggered the Bethlehem native, which forced him to take a knee.

Wheeler made the count, but Chavez sensed a stoppage victory was in his reach, and he pounced, unloading a vicious flurry of punches, forcing the referee to step in and wave the contest off, awarding Chavez the second-round TKO win.

Speaking about his victory, Chavez said: “It feels incredible to come out victorious in Wheeler’s hometown. I felt confident in my abilities, and I’m grateful for the support of my fans and team. I wasn’t too happy that he didn’t honour his contract by coming in overweight, so I took it out on him. I had to punish him.”

Coach Santos Gives His Verdict

Following the impressive win from Chavez, coach Santos offered his thoughts on the performance: “Angel showed he is a force in this division. He had no hesitation in taking this fight after the guy came in way overweight, that says a lot about his mindset. This kid reminds me a lot of David Benavidez. His execution was flawless, and I couldn’t be prouder of his victory.”
