Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have become arch-rivals in cricket since the ‘Naagin dance’ saga. Whenever the two teams face each other, one expects something unusual to happen either during or after the match.

On the 18th of March at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong, Bangladesh hammered Sri Lanka in the ODI series 2-1. As the Bangladeshi players started posing with the trophy, their wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim came toward the team with a helmet in his hands.

He started acting as if something was wrong with the helmet to mock Angelo Mathewstimed-out dismissal. As his team shared a laugh over Rahim’s antics, the wicketkeeper-batter joined them to pose with the trophy.

Prior to the ODI series, the two teams locked horns in the T20Is. Sri Lanka won the series 2-1 and celebrated it with a timed-out gesture.

For the unversed, Mathews became the victim of the timed-out decision during their match against Bangladesh in the 2023 ODI World Cup. The umpires asked Bangladeshi skipper Shakib Al Hasan if they wanted to withdraw the appeal, to which the skipper refused. Sri Lanka later refused to shake hands with the Bangladeshi players.

Bangladesh versus Sri Lanka 3rd ODI match recap

After winning the toss, Sri Lanka elected to bat first. They had a slow start to their innings as Taskin Ahmed dismissed the openers within four overs.

Slowly Sri Lanka started controlling the match, but they could only accelerate when Janith Liyanage was at the crease. He scored a century and remained unbeaten at 101 off 102 runs. Sri Lanka posted 235 on the back of Liyanage’s century.

Bangladesh chased down the target within 41 overs. Opener Tanzid Hasan scored 84 off 81 balls, while Rishad Hossain and Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten on 48 and 37 runs respectively, taking their team over the line to win by four wickets.
