On November 16 at The Venue Riyadh Season in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Chris Billam-Smith (20-1, 13 KOs) and Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez will clash in a cruiserweight unification bout for the WBA and WBO titles at the Riyadh Season Latino night. The entire card will be available through your monthly DAZN subscription in over 200 countries around the globe. Ahead of this huge contest, Ben Shalom has spoken to Sky Sports about what could come next for Billam-Smith if he defeats “Zurdo.”
Billam-Smith will collide with “Zurdo” Ramirez in an intriguing unification bout in the main event of Latino Night. Both fighters have tasted defeat but will be coming into the fight full of confidence. The Brit was last seen in action when he avenged his only defeat, dominating Richard Riakporhe. “Zurdo” won the WBA crown in his last fight, outboxing Arsen Goulamirian.
This unification bout offers a great opportunity for both to move on to bigger fights, including a potential undisputed fight – and Billam-Smith’s promoter Ben Shalom has teased what could be next for the Brit: “If he wins, he will be on the road to undisputed.” He continued: “He will want to add the WBC and IBF titles to his collection, and prove he is the best in the division.”
“A fight with Jai Opetaia is one the fans have been calling for to determine who is number one. If Chris wins on Saturday that is a fight we will be looking to make,” said Shalom.
Referring to November 16 and the importance of this fight, Shalom said: “This is the biggest fight of Chris’ career. If he wins this he can be fighting to become undisputed next year. He is ready to prove the doubters wrong again.”
The BOXXER founder added: “He’s stepped up and overcome every challenge put in front of him. The journey has been incredible and this can be the biggest night of them all.”
