Floyd Mayweather Jr. made eight figures while handing Canelo Alvarez the first loss of his career in 2013.

Alvarez's second loss also came with a financial windfall for Mayweather, who made $42,500 betting on Dmitry Bivol's upset victory Saturday night. Mayweather placed a $10,000 moneyline wager on Bivol, who entered the prizefight a +425 underdog.

Bivol dominated throughout the fight on his way to a unanimous-decision victory. While the scorecards read an identical 115-113 from all three judges, most observers felt Bivol's victory was more dominant than the final scores indicated.

"I don't feel like I lost the fight," Alvarez said afterward. " ... Personally, I felt he only won four or five rounds. ... Maybe the weight was a slight issue and made me feel less than 100 percent. ... We want the rematch, and we're going to do better in the rematch.

"Tonight, I was looking for greatness. I have many years ahead of me, and I'm going to come back stronger."

Alvarez says he plans on exercising a clause that grants him a rematch, which will likely delay the anticipated matchup between Canelo and Gennady Golovkin. The two fighters were slated for a September bout to finish off their trilogy, but it's likely Alvarez will focus on a Bivol rematch first.

As for Mayweather, he's no stranger to putting in massive wagers. In fact, the $10,000 wager he put on Bivol was a bit small for his typical taste.

Perhaps Mayweather is becoming a little more discerning at the sportsbook in retirement.
