Roy Jones Jr. (66-10, 47 KOs) wants to take a shot at Jake Paul (11-1, 7 KOs).
‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ Mike Tyson (50-7-2, 44 KOs) recently suffered a devastating loss against the far younger Paul during their fight at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The fight has since been a bone of contention among the members of the boxing fraternity, with many talking about the rather lackluster performance by Tyson. Jones Jr., on the other hand, turned his attention towards a direly needed move that Tyson missed out on.
In a conversation with TMZ Sports, ‘Captain Hook’ was asked what he would have done differently if he was in Tyson’s place.
“It makes you wanna go in and at least test Jake Paul’s chin. I know he got a good punch. I know he’s capable of putting anybody out. But I don’t think Mike checked his chin at all. So, I wouldn’t mind just having a shot to see; could I get to his chin to test his chin,” he said. “If he takes the shot, then cool, or if he can catch me before I get to his chin, cool. But I would definitely like a shot.”
Jones Jr. mentioned that he felt that Tyson did not get the opportunity to get to Paul’s chin. He said that the champ’s legs also looked bad from the very first round. Notably, Tyson’s knee was wrapped in a brace for the entirety of the fight. “I don’t think Mike was really trying to take a lot of risk because I didn’t like how his legs looked either. So, of course, he knows the older we get, the tougher it is to take it. So, I don’t think he was willing to risk that. But me, nah, I gotta go see,” he added.
Meanwhile, if a potential Jones Jr. vs Paul fight were to take place, the former world champion is certain that the age difference wouldn’t affect the outcome. In fact, he is certain that he’ll beat the YouTuber-turned-boxer. “He will probably have to take me out because I’m coming to knock him out. I’m going to get him, or he’s going to get me,” he said while talking to BoxingScene.
“It would be very difficult to pick him apart because he is so powerful and big. He has power and is a dangerous puncher. I would beat him, I’m sure, but you would have to be on your A-game all night, especially at my age.”
