Floyd Mayweather Jr. is arguably the greatest boxer of all time. As such, when regular folks see him out and about they immediately seek him out for autographs and photos. It’s not a particularly novel concept.
Unfortunately, an encounter that occurred recently left a bad taste in everyone’s mouths.
During a recent game between the Los Angeles Clippers and Memphis Grizzlies, a young fan reportedly approached Mayweather for a photo.
Unfortunately, when Mayweather saw his nails – he allegedly turned him away.
“You got painted nails, I don’t take pictures with guys with no painted nails,” Mayweather apparently said.
Because Mayweather had apparently agreed to photos with others, many started calling the famed boxer homophobic.
Fan reaction was swift:
Floyd Mayweather refused to take a picture with guy because he had painted nails. The fragile masculinity of it all…

forgot the part where he said he feels threatened becos of painted nailswhy does it always have to be that instead of a sensible person practicing the right of preferences. This is so childish and has 0 logic. Simple question, did mayweather owe the kid a duty to take a pic?

While Mayweather’s reaction isn’t very nice, obviously – it is worth mentioning that he is dealing with a lot of stress right now.
Mayweather’s daughter is facing 20 years in prison for her alleged role in a particularly violent incident, so that is probably weighing on him to some degree.
Does that excuse the attitude? No.
Does it provide some additional context? Absolutely.
