As the Montreal Alouettes continue to retain their top players this offseason as they bring back another key member to their defensive line.
The Grey Cup champions announced re-signing American defensive lineman Mustafa Johnson to a two-year contract. Johnson’s new deal keeps him in Montreal through the 2025 season.
“I am glad to be back with the Alouettes. I feel like Montreal is my home and I appreciate the confidence that the team puts in me,” Johnson said. “I look forward to working with the team to win another championship. There is a lot of talent in this locker room.”
His college career was mostly played with the Colorado Buffaloes from 2018-2021. Johnson recorded 121 total tackles, 31 tackles for loss, 17 sacks, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries in 35 games.
After not being selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, Johnson signed with the Alouettes in the middle of the season. In eight games, he recorded 18 defensive tackles and two sacks during that span.
Last season was a breakout year for the 24-year-old lineman, as he played in all 18 regular season games. He totaled 43 tackles, seven sacks and one touchdown, helping the Als win their first Grey Cup since 2010.
Terms of Johnson's deal were not released by the team.
Montreal had three key re-signings last week, including quarterback Cody Fajardo, defensive lineman Shawn Lemon and linebacker Darnell Sankey.
