As the Calgary Stampeders prepare for free agency, the team is looking to save money wherever they can. The team turned to quarterback Jake Maier for assistance.

Both sides agreed this week on a reworked contract for the 2024 season. The deal includes Maier receiving a $150,000 signing bonus and his base salary dropping by $55,000.

Here is a full breakdown of the hard money he is owed from the team:

· $150,000 signing bonus

· $156,200 base salary

· $13,800 for housing

· $10,000 appearance

· $5,000 workout bonus

· $4,000 travel allowance

· $339,000 total amount

Incentives are also included in the contract that would give Maier $2,000 per game in which he plays over 51 percent of the offensive snaps. He could receive $1,000 if he's an All-Star and $3,000 for winning CFL's Most Outstanding Player. The incentives total  $381,000.

“We’ve been in contact with Jake quite a bit this offseason, identifying some things that, as a staff and as an offensive unit, we need to be better at,” Calgary Stampeders coach Dave Dickenson said via 3Down Nation.

“Just trying to communicate with Jake and make sure he’s at his best," Dickenson said. "Lots of things going on and I’m confident with Jake and feel like he’s a guy that will improve this year and make us better.”

Maier took over for long-time quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell full-time in 2023 after Mitchell left for Hamilton. Maier finished with 4,244 yards passing and 19 touchdowns, with 15 interceptions.

He is in the final year of his contract. The Stampeders are looking to bounce back from their 6-12 season in which they lost to the BC Lions in the first round.

Maier is the all-time leader at UC Davis (2017-19) with 11,163 passing yards and is second all-time with 88 passing touchdowns.
