The Montreal Alouettes signed two tackling machines on Thursday, as linebackers Jeremy Banks and Troy Brown agreed to two-year contracts with the defending Grey Cup champions.

Banks was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before the 2023 season after not being drafted. He played at Tennessee where he converted from running back to linebacker and made 219 career tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks and three interceptions. In 2021, he led the team in tackles with 128.

Brown signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent last year, being waived during training camp. His first four college seasons were with Central Michigan, racking up 215 tackles, 31.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, five interceptions and three forced fumbles in 41 games. In 2022, he transferred to Ole Miss and led the Rebels in tackles with 93, adding 2.5 tackles for loss and five pass deflections in 13 games.

The Als on Tuesday re-signed defensive back Nafees Lyon to a one-year contract after missing most of the 2023 season due to a knee injury.

Montreal opens the season on the road on June 6 against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
