Special teams for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers appear to be intact with a key piece returning for the 2024 season. Kicker Sergio Castillo re-signed with the team on a one-year agreement.

Castillo was nothing short of spectacular in 2023, breaking the Bombers’ franchise record for field goal percentage made at 90.2. He converted 46-of-51 field goals, with a long of 53 yards.

His CFL career began in 2015 with the Bombers playing for the team for more than a season. He has also played for the Ottawa Redblacks, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, BC Lions and Edmonton Elks. Other stops include the New York Jets in the NFL, the Houston Roughnecks of the XFL and the San Antonio Commanders of the AAF.

In 77 career CFL games, Castillo has made 86.7 percent of his field goals. He was named as a CFL All-Star and CFL West All-Star in 2019 with the Lions, converting a league-high 91.1 percent of his field goals. He won one Grey Cup with Winnipeg in 2021.

Winnipeg has brought back 18 players from last season’s squad including Castillo. The Bomber have 10 players remaining who are free agents.
