With the University of Louisville opting to part ways with Kenny Payne as their head men's basketball coach, an expected development out on the recruiting trail has come with it.
Montclair (N.J.) Immaculate Conception point guard T.J. Robinson, who was the Cardinals' lone commitment in the Class of 2024, announced Thursday that he has backed off of his verbal pledge to Louisville.
"I would like to thank the University of Louisville Basketball for offering me a scholarship and all of Card Nation for the nonstop support while I was committed," Robinson said in a statement to On3. "But, after the resigning of Coach Payne and staff, my family and I have decided it’s best to reopen my recruitment."
Robinson had been committed to Louisville for roughly a year and a half, originally giving his commitment to Payne and Co. back on Halloween of 2022. He held offers from LSU, Georgetown, Kansas State, Temple and others before deciding to choose the Cardinals.
However, he passed up on the opportunity to sign a National Letter of Intent to Louisville during the Early Signing Period last November, presumably due to the rumors regarding Payne's job status. Payne was officially dismissed on Wednesday after going 12-52 in two seasons at the helm.
Per the 247Sports Composite, the 6-foot-4, 160-pound guard ranked as the No. 25 point guard and the No. 214 overall prospect in the Class of 2024. During his junior campaign at Immaculate Conception, Robinson averaged 21.0 points, 2.0 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game.
