The hits keep on coming for Michigan Basketball as 2024 Bradenton (Fl.) IMG Academy small forward Khani Rooths decommitted from the Wolverines.

Less than an hour prior, UM guard Dug McDaniel announced that he would be entering the transfer portal, both moves serving to gut the Michigan hoops squad. Before that, Juwan Howard was dismissed from his position on Friday, posting an abysmal 8-24 record in his final season as Michigan’s head coach.

Back in November, Rooths issued his commitment to the UM stafff, but that contingent of coaches will not roam the Ann Arbor baselines next season. As a result, decisions like Rooths’ are expected, albeit troublesome for the program in the meantime. According to 247Sports.com, Rooths is ranked as the No. 7 power forward in the nation and the No. 35 prospect overall, so his departure is an impactful blow to the Wolverines’ 2024 recruiting class.

Without Rooths in the fold, Michigan holds pledges from two prospects in the ‘24 cycle. Durral Brooks, a 6-2, 180-pound in-state guard from Grand Rapids (Mich.) Catholic Central has already signed his Letter of Intent, and the same can be said for 5-11, 155-pound Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill Academy guard Christian Anderson.

At the moment, Michigan has only offered one other small forward— five-star Dylan Harper, who is committed to Rutgers. If the Wolverines are looking to replace Rooths, stability needs to be restored within the program before recruiting takes center stage.

More attrition is expected from the Michigan program in the coming days.
