University of Alabama true freshman back Tony Mitchell had his legal case in Holmes County, Fla., closed on Wednesday after he pled "no contest" on a felony marijuana possession charge.

Mitchell was placed on probation for three years. He paid $1,560, will serve 100 hours of community service and will reportedly receive drug counseling.

Mitchell enrolled in January. He was arrested at a traffic stop in March for possession of marijuana with the intent to sell and/or distribute.

According to the arrest report obtained and published by AL.com, police found more than $7,000 in cash and 226 grams of marijuana in the vehicle Mitchell was driving, and Christophere Lewis, was a passenger. Mitchell admitted to fleeing police, and at one point was clocked at 141 mph, and said that Lewis had told him to "punch it."

Mitchell was subsequently suspended from all team activities before the start of spring practices. Nick Saban said on Wednesday that his status hasn't changed. The Crimson Tide coach traditionally doesn't comment specifically on suspended players.

"Everybody's got an opportunity to make choices and decisions," Saban said back in March when spring practices opened. "There's no such thing in being in the wrong place at the wrong time. You've got to be responsible for who you're with, who you're around and what you do, who you associate yourself with and the situations that you put yourself in.

"It is what it is, but there is cause and effect when you make choices and decisions that put you in bad situations."

Mitchell was a consensus 4-star prospect out of Thompson High School in Alabaster, Ala. He was No. 64 on the SI99 for the recruiting Class of 2023.
