Following Kentucky’s loss to Kansas State, Antonio Reeves was incredibly hard on himself as he sat in a funeral-like locker room. Shooting 1-15 from the field, Reeves shot the worst percentage of his career – with at least one made shot – at the worst possible time.
“It was very difficult,” Reeves told KY Insider after the game. “I played my hardest, but I have to keep my head up.”
Reeves should keep his head up. While it was bad timing for an off-game, he had scored double-digits in 17 of the last 20 games and carried the Wildcats to some of their biggest regular-season wins, including road victories over Mississippi State and Arkansas.
One bad game should not overshadow an entire season. In his one season, Reeves proved himself as one of the best shooters in Kentucky basketball history. With 80 made threes, Reeves tied Keith Bogans with the 12th most in a single season for a Wildcat, while shooting at an efficient 39.8% clip, which ranks 14th in program history.
With that said, Reeves still has one more year of eligibility remaining and could add to those numbers.
When asked about a potential return after the Kansas State game, he did say he will take time to speak to his family and the staff to make a decision but also provided some promising quotes.
“I’d love to be back,” Reeves said. “I love the school. I love the fans. I love everybody here.”
Reeves would be a welcome return for next season’s roster, adding an elite shooter to a highly touted group of freshmen. That decision will likely be made over the next few weeks, but he does have a final deadline of May 31st if he wishes to retain his collegiate eligibility.
