Carson Cooper and Malik Hall are around Tom Izzo every day so the idea of him closing in on retirement is wild to them.

The conversation surrounding Tom Izzo and a potential upcoming retirement has been at an all-time high this season. Izzo is 69 years old, so it’s not an insane thing to suggest that he could be nearing retirement. He discussed this in a CBS Sports interview earlier this season, saying he’s still nowhere near being ready to retire. However, that somehow didn’t stop these conversations from happening.

In an episode of The Spiro Avenue Show, Malik Hall and Carson Cooper discussed when they think Izzo will retire.

Spoiler alert: It won’t be any time soon.

What did Cooper and Hall have to say about Izzo retiring?

In this episode of The Spiro Avenue Show, both Hall and Cooper were reacting to a clip from The Valenti Show where Rico Beard suggested Izzo could retire any day now. Their reactions to this clip were priceless. You’ll have to see their hilarious facial reactions yourself, but Cooper shared that “He (Izzo) tells us all the time he’s going to be coaching til he’s dead and old.” Considering Izzo doesn’t look his age, that likely means he’s got a lot longer to go.

Cooper continued by talking about how Izzo is during practices and the energy he brings. Carson said, “If anyone looked at one practice we have, I think they’d have to change their mind with all that.” He continued, “This guy’s 69 years old and I don’t see any of that (retiring) in him.”

Malik Hall also jumped in, saying “He’s going to retire at some point obviously, but I don’t think it’s any time soon.”

And Carson agreed right away, saying “I could see him doing this for a while.”

If I had to guess, I’d say that Tom Izzo has at least five more years in him, if not more. I know Izzo hasn’t been the best coach in recent years, but he undoubtedly is the best option for Michigan State. He is a perfect representation of this university and I have no doubt he’ll get Michigan State back on top of the college basketball world soon.
