Ahead of their appearance in the ACC Tournament, Clemson basketball was dealt a blow as senior guard Alex Hemenway had emergency surgery to remove his appendix early Monday morning, per head coach Brad Brownell.

"He's fine. Recovering nicely after the surgery." said Brownell

"Obviously feel bad for Alex, because I feel like he was just starting to turn a corner back a little bit. Had a tough year, he's just had a lot of tough injuries, and it's unfortunate. It's kind of been a crazy year that way for us; everything seems fine, then we wake up one day, the next day, and something happened. So, we'll have to deal with that."

"I feel bad for Alex, because I know how much he's wanted to play and he's worked really hard to get back to play even the minutes he's been playing lately."

The senior out of Indiana is averaging a career-best 6.9 points per game this season, but has been limited to just 20 games due to injuries.

Clemson in the #3 seed in the tournament and will not play until Thursday, March 9th. The Tigers will play the winner of #6 N.C. State vs #11 Virginia Tech/#14 Notre Dame.

The 2023 New York Life ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament will be played Tuesday through Saturday (March 7-11) at Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina.
