Creighton outlasts Oregon in wild double-overtime thriller

Jermaine Couisnard kept Oregon alive in overtime with a huge shot. He ran out of magic in double overtime.

Ten minutes after midnight on the East Coast, Couisnard's sixth three-pointer tied the game, 71-71. But perhaps tired from carrying his team with 32 points, he shot 0-of-6 in double overtime.

Meanwhile, Creighton couldn’t miss. Steven Ashworth hit his fifth three of the game to start things off.

Then center Ryan Kalkbrenner, a 29 percent three-point shooter, made his own shot from beyond the arc.

Later, with the game all but decided, Trey Alexander appeared to make his fourth triple of the game by accident, banking in a deep shot.

Oregon’s best shooter couldn’t buy a bucket, while Creighton’s center was bombing away and they were banking in threes.

Still, the shot Oregon might regret missing most came from center N’Faly Dante, who had a monster game with 28 points and 20 rebounds.

Dante dunked all over Creighton Saturday night.

But with 26 seconds left, Dante missed the front end of a one-and-one — his only missed free throw in five attempts.

That opened the door for Creighton, who tied the game on a step-back jumper from Baylor Scheierman with nine seconds left.

The Bluejays advanced to play No. 2 seed Tennessee in Detroit next Friday.

As for Oregon, in a game where they made so many big shots, they’ll go home regretting the big ones they missed.
