The news that Michigan basketball is hiring Akeem Miskdeen isn’t new. It was first reported by Davis Moseley on Wednesday. But has now been confirmed by Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic.

Either way, as long as it’s happening, it’s good news for Michigan basketball. Really good news. Dusty May turned heads earlier this week with the reported hire of Mike Boynton, the former Oklahoma State head coach as an assistant.

Boynton, who coached previously under Brad Underwood, had plenty of options. May got him to Michigan basketball, which was an impressive recruiting win itself. Boynton has coached four top-50 defenses at Oklahoma State. He also signed Cade Cunningham to play for the Pokes.

Akeem Miskdeen is another home run hire by Dusty May

Miskdeen is another quality solid hire. He’s coming to Michigan basketball from Georgia. He had previously coached under May at FAU. They have a history so it makes sense. Miskdeen was the primary recruiter for Johnnell Davis, a former FAU player who just entered the transfer portal. Davis was the American Player of the Year last season and averaged 18 points per game. He also shot 41 percent from 3-point range.

Michigan felt like the favorite for Davis and this hire solidifies that. He declared for the NBA draft like Vlad Goldin, but if they return to college, they are expected to be Wolverines.

However, Miskdeen could also give Michigan basketball the edge for 4-star Khani Rooths. The former Michigan commitment re-opened his recruitment and UGA was trending as the favorite. But Miskdeen was his primary recruiter for the Bulldogs, so that could change things. May also traveled on Wednesday to see Rooths practicing so Michigan is trending back up.

Beyond the recruitment of Rooths and Davis, Miskdeen played a key role in what May built at FAU. It makes perfect sense to bring him aboard to rebuild Michigan basketball.

So far, May has made two hires and each feels like a home run.
