Another former Nittany Lion appears to have found a landing spot out of the transfer portal, and it’s with a former member of the Penn State basketball staff. Sophomore guard Jameel Brown is now expected to remain in-state and transfer to Temple, per Tyler Calvaruso of Lions247. The Owls are led by former Nittany Lions associate head coach and Penn State alumnus Adam Fisher. Brown is one of five members of the 2023-24 roster to hit the portal this spring.

Jameel Brown predicted to transfer to Temple, join former Nittany Lions assistant Adam Fisher

Jameel Brown was the final member of the Penn State basketball roster recruited by Micah Shrewsberry to depart from the program, entering the transfer portal on March 22. Brown was a raw young talent for the Nittany Lions, averaging three points in 41 games over his first two seasons. However, his efficiency increased this year, shooting 32% from behind the arc.

“One thing I love about Jameel is he works really hard and he’s very, very coachable. He didn’t play much last year, so he’s still a young player,” Mike Rhoades said, in part, to Blue-White Illustrated this season. “There are times out there where he’s just, not a step behind, but he’s trying to figure it out. So a guy like that, you got to find a way to get him on the court. We’re trying to do that.”

Now, it appears that Jameel Brown will look to find the court at another program in the Keystone State. Last week, Tyler Calvaruso of Lions247 entered a crystal ball for Brown to commit to the Temple Owls out of the transfer portal. A three-star recruit in the 2022 cycle, Brown is a Philadelphia native who played his high school basketball at the Westtown School.

Of course, Jameel Brown would be joining former Nittany Lions assistant Adam Fisher, a key member of Shrewsberry’s staff at Penn State. A former student manager who also spent time on Pat Chambers’ staff in Happy Valley, the Owls went 16-20 in year one under Fisher.

Jameel Brown is one of four members of the Penn State basketball roster to enter the transfer portal since the end of the season in March. Kanye Clary, who was dismissed from the team in February, also entered and has since committed to Mississippi State.

Another member of Micah Shrewsberry’s last recruiting class is also expected to remain in the Keystone State, with reports last week that forward Demetrius Lilley was transferring to La Salle. Other former Nittany Lions to hit the portal – Bragi Guðmundsson and Favour Aire – have not yet found homes.

On the other end, Mike Rhoades and Penn State basketball have made one transfer portal addition so far, Xavier center Kachi Nzeh. The Nittany Lions officially have forward Puff Johnson back for 2024-25 but are still awaiting an announcement from star guard Ace Baldwin.
