Final Four ticket prices laughably low due to group of semifinalists

Everyone loves a Cinderella in college basketball. Everyone besides those hosting the Final Four.

The Athletic's Stewart Mandel pointed on Twitter to ticket prices for the Final Four and subsequent championship game, which are shockingly low for such a major event.

Snooping about elsewhere, onĀ SeatGeek, tickets are available for as little as $79. Fans only wanting to go to the semifinals can buy tickets for a pittance of $43, while the price of admission to the finals is $37.

This year's edition of the Final Four is one of the most unexpected in history. Without traditional blue bloods, however, it's having difficulty attracting buyers.

Five-seed San Diego State and nine-seed Florida Atlantic play in one semifinal while the other will see four-seed UConn against five-seed Miami (Florida).

This year's prices look even more absurd when compared to those of last spring. Per El Paso's NBC affiliate KTSM, the average price for a ticket at last year's Final Four -- which put out a field of Duke, UNC, Kansas and Villanova -- was $2,885.

Those in Houston at NRG Stadium aren't the only ones bracing for a hit to their revenue at this year's Final Four. Per The Athletic, CBS could draw its lowest ratings (ever) for the NCAA Tournament semifinals and finals.

For a tournament unlike any other, NCAA officials have to be hoping it has one more unexpected twist up its sleeve to give fans at home a reason to stay tuned in and those in attendance a huge bang for their buck.
