Florida State has picked up their third transfer this offseason, adding former Georgetown guard Amir “Primo” Spears, who announced his commitment to the Seminoles on Saturday night.

Spears, a 6’3” rising junior from Hartford, CT, started his career at Duquesne, where he averaged 12.7 PPG, 3.0 APG, and 2.5 RPG. He transferred to Georgetown for his sophomore season and averaged 16/5.3/3.0 while shooting 43.4% from the floor and 30% from 3. FSU needs natural scorers, and Spears can do that. He should slide right into the void left by Caleb Mills.

Primo Spears had announced a top 4 of Arkansas, FSU, Kansas, and TCU before eventually deciding on the ‘Noles. He's coming off a trip to Tallahassee and recently checked out the Jayhawks as well. This came down to spots as much as anything, as Arkansas, Kansas, and TCU have all landed quality transfers at guard positions, and really didn’t have the space for Spears, who can put up a lot of shots at a time (26 games with 15+ shot attempts).

With Florida State losing two of its top three scorers from last season in Matthew Cleveland and Caleb Mills, it was a necessity to add some proven scoring in the transfer portal. It helps that Spears has familiarity with new assistant coach Kevin Nickelberry, as both of them spent last season at Georgetown. As we sit right now, Florida State doesn’t have any open scholarships, but they’re still keeping in contact with a few available transfer bigs should an opening come available.
