Former Indiana basketball guard CJ Gunn has announced his transfer destination, committing to DePaul on Friday morning.

DePaul hired former Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann earlier this month and are coming off of a 3-29 season. It has not made the NCAA Tournament since 2004.

Gunn entered the portal after two seasons with Indiana basketball. He played in 49 games and averaged 3.1 points while shooting just 25.7 percent from three.

This year Gunn played in 29 games, averaging 3.9 points and shooting 34 percent from three. He averaged 12.8 minutes a game.

He scored in double figures three times, with his career-high of 17 points coming in the final game of the season in the Big Ten Tournament against Nebraska.

Gunn averaged 6.1 points per game while shooting 37.5 percent on 1.3 made over the last month of the season.

“I think it’s just how much I watch the game and study the game,” Gunn said when asked if the game is slowing down for him. “Coach made an emphasis that I need to be more in tune with what we’re doing on both sides of the floor. Being upstairs with [Brian] Walsh and [Jordan Hulls], just going over film consistently, that obviously brings me more comfort in the game.”

“CJ is in the gym all the time and now you’re just seeing the results,” IU senior Xavier Johnson said. “He’s a guy that has high confidence in himself and fears nothing.”

The 6-foot-4 Gunn is Lawrence North’s (Ind.) all-time leading scorer in points per game average. He led the Wildcats to a Class 4A State Championship runner-up appearance in 2021. He averaged 23.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and shot 37.4 percent as a senior.

Gunn will have two years of eligibility remaining.
