Following a disappointing and embarrassing performance from the Indiana basketball program Tuesday night at Rutgers, former Hoosiers standout Brian Evans joined The Ride with JMV on Wednesday afternoon to discuss numerous topics related to the state of the program.

Among them was Xavier Johnson’s antics and the flagrant 2 foul that send him to the locker room early. His reaction to the specific play and his overall thoughts on Johnson at this point in his career as a sixth-year guard. Also, Evans gives his take on the overall state of the program. Better or worse off than some of the previous tenured head coaches? His thoughts on where Indiana goes from here — considering this is a former player manning the program now.

“That (the loss at Rutgers) was so bad. And it’s been bad, but it just got ugly last night. Yeah, I’m disappointed. I’m not happy with the state of the program at all. And, worse than that? I don’t think it’s going to get better, I’m afraid it’s going to get worse.”

Evans played with Indiana from 1992-96 and was Big Ten Player of the Year and Third-Team All-American in 1996. He averaged 21.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game as a senior. In his 124 career games in Bloomington, Evans averaged 13.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in 29.1 minutes per game.

(Evans’ thoughts on Xavier Johnson begin at 12:15)
