On Friday, several college basketball insiders reported that another familiar name to the Pitt program will enter the transfer portal.

Jon Rothstein and Joe Tipton reported that former Panther John Hugley will enter the portal for the second-straight offseason. Hugley spent this past year with the Oklahoma Sooners under head coach Porter Moser. There, he averaged 8.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per game while shooting 55% from the field. Hugley started one game for the Sooners, playing 17.6 minutes per game.

While at Pitt, Hugley broke out as a sophomore, averaging 14.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game for the Panthers. He shot 47% from the field on more than ten attempts per game. He scored 472 points that season.

In his junior campaign with Pitt, he missed the beginning of the season due to a knee injury suffered in practice, Hugley played in eight games, averaging 8.0 points and 3.6 rebounds in 18.2 minutes per game for Pitt. Then, in mid-January, he announced he would be sitting out the remainder of the season.  Hugley told Tipton the following statement:

“To the Pittsburgh coaching staff, I thank you for always pushing me to be the best version of myself on the court. I am forever grateful for the opportunity the Pittsburgh Nation has given me and that will always be held very close to my heart.”

Hugley, a Cleveland, Ohio native, is now looking for his third school in the portal. Other familiar names in the transfer portal this year are Federiko Federiko and William Jeffress, who recently left the Panthers’ program.
