Four-star small forward Marcus Adams Jr., who enrolled for his freshman year at Kansas earlier this summer, requested a release from his national letter of intent on Sunday.

Adams will reopen his recruitment with a few months to go before the 2023-24 college basketball season.

In a social media post Sunday announcing his intentions, Adams thanked Kansas coach Bill Self and assistant coach Kurtis Townsend "for being a great help in my development and time here."

"I would like to request a release from my National Letter of Intent in order to find out where I truly belong," Adams wrote. "It was a hard decision. I decided it would be best for me mentally and for my family."

Adams was rated No. 104 overall in his class by the 247Sports composite rankings. The 6-foot-8 native of Torrance, Calif., had reclassified from the Class of 2024 to 2023 in order to join the Jayhawks for the upcoming season.

Self and the Jayhawks are down to two incoming freshmen for 2023-24, as they also lost four-star combo guard commit Chris Johnson last month. Elmarko Jackson, a five-star point guard, and Jamari McDowell, a four-star shooting guard, remain.
