TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona State point guard Frankie Collins has been named to the Pac-12’s all-defensive team along with Oumar Ballo (Arizona), Adem Bona (UCLA), N’Faly Dante (Oregon), and Kobe Johnson (USC).

Collins becomes the first ASU player since the 2019-2020 season. Both Zylan Cheatham and Luguentz Dort made the list that season.

This season on the defensive end Collins averaged 2.7 steals per game. Collins had ranked first in the Pac-12 in steals per game and sixth nationally. This season, Collins passed Fat Lever for most steals in a single season (ASU) at 76. Lever’s record was set back in 1982.

Frankie Collins earns All-Pac-12 Defensive honors

Collins wants to play defense all the time and has been praised for his defensive abilities by coach Bobby Hurley and his teammates.

“Frankie wants to play defense and he wants to guard, so he takes pride in that,” Coach Hurley said.

“He’s a great leader, he’s always going to tell it to you straight and he’s not going to beat around the bush,” Bryant Selebangue said.

Just a few months ago, Collins announced that he would donate 20 dollars for every steal he had to an elementary school in Sacramento, California. That total at the end of the regular season is now up to 1660 dollars. Not only is Collins a great defender on the court, but also a great humanitarian off the court.

Collins will look to continue his high level of ball defensive efforts in Vegas this week as Arizona State competes in the Pac-12 tournament. The Sun Devils open up on Wednesday against Utah. This season ASU is 2-0 against the Utes.
