Alcorn State's athletic department confirmed the departure of longtime head coach Fred McNair in a statement. McNair interviewed for the vacant head coach position at Texas Southern University.

The TSU Board of Regents has reportedly approved a four-year contract worth $313,000 for its next head football coaching candidate. According to a source close to the program, McNair has been the "top choice" of the Texas Southern University search committee.

As of Dec. 13, TSU VP of Athletics, Dr. Kevin Granger, confirmed that Coach McNair had not received an official offer for the position.

During McNair's time at Alcorn, the team won two SWAC Championship titles and five SWAC East championships and made two trips to the Celebration Bowl. Last season, the Braves achieved a 7-4 overall record and a 6-2 SWAC record.
